Looking at BFG KO2 vs Toyo open country A/t 2. As much as id like to say I am gonna off road a ton, its honestly 90% on road vs 10% off road. with the 2.5" lift I'm going up to 265/75/16 with OEM 16" alloy wheels with spidertrax spacers.

My question is how bad is the gas mileage vs the stock 265/70/16 BFG rugged trails vs the BFG KO2. I know weight wise is as follows

    bfg rugged trail 38lb
    bfg KO2 53lb
    Toyo 41lb

Also how is road noise compared with all 3 tires?

    Thanks for the help

the K02 is the new all terrain. The KM2 is the mud terrain. the K02 will be very quiet.

Toyo's come with a treadwear warranty and bfg's don't. Had good luck with the toyo at II's.

I know that. Looking at all terrain tires. Wonder why the KO2 is so heavy compared to others in the category.

But I've read of people going 40-50K on the old version KO's so Not really concerned with the lifespan on the KO2's. Just more the gas mileage part of it. Dont wanna lose 5 MPG and then have 2 vehicle in the low teen gas mileage range.

I was averaging 17-18 with 285/65r18 toyo at II's. I also ran cooper at III's and same on gas mileage with those which are also a good tire with a treadwear warranty. I ran bfg's at's on my first gen Tundra and wasn't impressed with them. I know this is a newer design but since the last set of bfg's I have been running cooper's or toyo's on my trucks and no issues at all.

The new KO2 does not seem to have much difference in road noise compared to the Rugged Fails. However, I've only been able to do a very short comparison of them as the Rugged Fails were on for all of like 20 miles before I replaced them and I've hardly driven on the KO2s yet. But, for sure the KO2 is not loud like a MT tire at all. Should be very close to the Rugged Fails in road noise.

As to MPG that I don't have an answer for. But of course adding extra rotating mass will reduce mileage. You aren't, however, going up to a 33" tire or anything. So I'd expect the mileage hit to be modest. That's a popular tire size and the KO2 weight is about the same as the KO weight which people have been running for years so you should be able to search the many, many, many mileage and tire threads here to get an idea of what to expect.

I have to ask, why spacers? The 265/75/16 will fit just fine on a stock suspension with no spacers at all. In general don't use spacers, use wheels with the proper offset. Since the stock alloy wheel offset is just fine with a 265/75/16 why introduce spacers that can only cause problems?

Went ahead and ordered the BFG's. 265/75/16 for $765 but they have the $70 mail in rebate card so thats a plus. I figure I can probably sell the OEM BFG's for $400 on craigslist since they only have a couple hundred miles on them.

For the look. Honestly I dont plan to have the truck for more than 3 years so I should be fine. Also it is a second vehicle so I bet it doesnt see 20,000 miles in 3 years

Cool, no worries. Plenty of people use spacers successfully and if you know what you are doing and maintain properly shouldn't be an issue at all.

Enjoy the new tires, I ran KOs on a 1992 for the last 15 years and loved them. With my new Tacoma I was happy to have the KO2 come out in the size I wanted just a week or two before I took delivery on the new truck. Will finally get some road and trail time on them next weekend - hurray!

I have had both now. Both are good tires!
Snow is unknown tho. For my bfg's. Toyos did great. Doesnt snow much here.
    Maybe next season.
Honestly i would get what is cheaper. I would have no problem with either tire other than bfg is heavier.
