Help me decide on tires

If you love your stock wheels, it's a no brainer. I started with the steel wheels so had to do it all anyway. I went with the TRD Pro's and the 265/70/17's.

You could look into getting new wheels to help balance it out. Stock OR wheels are 24lbs, I'm going to run the Counter steer off roads that are only 18.5, so that will help.

 

I originally went with the BFG Ko2 load E and returned them for the load C Duratracs. I lost at least 2 mpgs with the BFG and lost 0 with the load c duratracs. Both are good tires but I like the duratracs better bc of the weight difference.

 

Anybody know the wheel/tire combo on this truck? It's exactly the look I'm after. Obviously I can tweak the tires for what I need, just wanted to get started. Thanks!

Oh OP, you just missed the Discount Tire Direct sale on ebay. $100 off $400 tire orders.

 

So even with 265/70/17 you are losing a couple mpg, and the estimate for the 265/75/16 is about 2-3 mpg hit. So seems they are about the same really. I guess the E will still have a harsher/stiffer ride, but will be stronger. hummm i dont know why this is so hard for me to decide. I think i am leaning towards getting new wheels and doing the load C 265/70/17s.

This might be a stupidnquestion but what did you do for your spare?

 

Initially I just got 4 but a couple weeks later I got one more rim and tire for the spare. when I got the last tire at discount tires I asked them if I could trade in the spare they said they didn't really want it but the sales guy said I noticed you didn't get insurance on your tires and he offered me $90 for the spare if I got insurance so I agreed but I only insured 4 because the spare will almost always be under the truck only being used to get me to discount tires. I would put it in the rotation but the spare doesn't have a Tpms plus when I need tires I will only need 4 not 5. And even if I damaged the spare and needed to replace it they will not know which 4 of the 5 tires are insured.
And good news on your speedo, tire size calculator said that it would be off a couple of mpgs at sixty mph but there is a radar speed warning that shows your speed when over the limit near where I live and speedo and the radar show exact speed readings at 40 mph

 

Get the c load 17's so you can get these badass wheels

Difference is about 3%, check with TW tire calculator. However, 3% is about the safety margin that manufacturer set their speedo up so they don't get sued because you get a ticket while your speedo was too slow. So now my truck with 265/70/17 is about as accurate as my GPS.

You think BFG will produce a C-rated 265/75/16 down the road? I know there is more demand for 17's but it seems like there is quite a bit of demand just in this forum for 16's. Gotta imagine some other truck/jeep guys would want them as well.

 

I don't have a way of measuring the real mileage so I can't tell. I would beleive it would be 3% as well. Odo is based on revolutions of wheels so it should be the same as speedo.

 

Pulled the trigger today on the TRD Pro wheels and 265/70/R17 KO2s. Snapped a quick pic while filling up. Love the setup! Some very very minor rubbing. The tire hits my plasticolor mud flap sometimes.
