I have a 2006 Prerunner DC with 73,000 miles and in excellent condition. I've been wanting to "upgrade" to a 4x4 but getting a brand new one is out of the question. Spending more than $2,000 for a trade is also out of the question.
I saw a local dealer ad for a 2006 4x4 TRD Sport with 115,000 miles on it. Upon further check on the VIN, i found that the car had a prior fender bender from 2 yrs ago. Checking the KBB retail, my Prerunner is valued at $500 more than the dealer's 4x4.
My question is: if the dealer asks for $1,000 for a straight up trade, would it be a good deal? I haven't talked to the dealer yet but I was hoping for a straight no-cash exchange. If it's the latter (no-cash trade), do you think it will be a good deal considering the extra 42,000 miles and the accident in the record?

Is 4x4 necessary for you? I noticed your in Seattle so it would help quite a bit. Sounds more like a downgrade personally, with the extra miles, but mainly the accident. Just my 2 cents.

i think its a pretty good trade imo, considering that the dealers truck is a TRD Sport AND 4x4... but you definitely wont get an even exchange. the dealer needs to make money somehow

I'm sure the dealer didn't get the sport for its actual kbb value. They'd still make some nice money even at selling it near the same price as yours. Just, they probably won't give you the trade price you want, so it would end up a few grand over. Just bring up that accident and hope they budge.either way, good luck man!

I'd just go in, drive that one, and ask them what they could do. Book doesn't mean much nowadays, a 4x4 in your area would most likely be a better selling truck compared to a 2wd, so they might hit you a little low.
