Help me fix this demon possessed computer!

    She ended up taking it to her boyfriend's dad. He has something to do with IT somewhere. Haha works for me

    See if you can run a program called rkill.exe- stops active virus process. Then try to download and run malwarebytes.
    If this does not work, you have to run malwarebytes from a bootable disc or thumb drive as others have mentioned.

    Once the laptop's operating system is running, the virus will reinstall itself before the scan is complete- this is why it is desirable to run malwarebytes with the laptop operating system not running.

    Roll back to a previous setting can make things worse- virus designers expect you to do this and set it up so if you do, it installs more virus threads.

    If you can find the name of the virus, you can search online and usually find step by step instructions for removal manually in the case of really pesky viruses. Often these types of viruses look like a spyware scanner and have names like "security scan". Sometimes there is an icon in the system tray that you can check properties on and find the name of the infection.
