Yep! I seen a Subaru Brat do some Krazzzy trails! I had a 71 FJ and I kept looking back and he was right behind me until I got stuck and he passed me...

It's not necessarily ability as much as comfort.

    1. I've seen a couple broken aals on the ranch, but those trucks live a rough life.

    2. Maybe, i did a diff drop and haven't had any issues over 7k miles.

So is it an either/or thing... ecsg bushing or diff drop kit? Do I need to do any of that with this setup?

Coils overs in the Fox kit allow you to dial in ride height and you can make adjustments for sag / lean / additional weight while on the truck, whereas the 6112 is limited to whatever you have your clip rings set at, more of a set and forget. In order to change height of the 6112 you need to remove the shock from the truck.

Coilovers can be a problem if you live in a salty / gritty environment where you need to keep the threads clean so you can continue to make any adjustments; no need with the 6112. I guess it depends on how much you want to fiddle with things, how often will you want to dial your shocks in to different ride heights?

I'm more of a "set it and forget" it guy. Even though I have adjustable shocks on my sports car, once I've set them I haven't ever had to change the adjustment.

Thanks Jay. How about performance-wise? Gain anything with the Fox? From what I've read the 6112s are very similar. Also, I'm still trying to figure out whether to get the med. duty dakar pack, or an AAL?

Use the money saved from the Fox 2.5 coilovers and put it towards the UCAs. I don't think ride performance would feel much different between the two, the cost differential seems to be the "fiddle factor" the coilovers allow.

OK everyone. About to actually pull the trigger. Stop me if anything freaks anyone out. To recap, I'm looking for a 2" lift all around (maybe more in the back?) and to at LEAST retain the stock towing/payload capacity. Also want a performance improvement off road as I plan to get into it more:

    From Headstrong (most likely):
    • Bilstein 6112s assembled at 5th / 6th notch
    • UCAs - SPC LR OR JBA -Need help with this.. I'd obviously want an alignment after and @WRO said the most shops can't figure out SPC LR? Otherwise seems many recommend the SPC's LR.
    • Bilstein 5160s
    • Leafs- AAL or Dakar Medium duty. Need help here too!
    • Extended length u-bolts and FULL poly bushings and sleeve kit for both leaf pack eyes. (comes with HS kit)
    • OME carrier bearing drop bracket (comes with HS kit)
ECGS bushing... might wait on this one as it seems expensive to install and possibly not needed.

I spoke with some reps from Bilstein who advised there would be a different spring coming out for the 6112 if I decided to get a bumper at a later time. I dont remember them giving a time frame.

Since the front suspension will be apart that's the best time to get it done. Parts were $60 and a shop charged me about $275 for the install. If you don't do it you're just going to keep asking yourself if any vibration you might feel is due to the inferior needle bearing or just do it as a preventive measure and know if you DO get vibrations, it's not due to the ECGS bushing installed.

Why drive around wondering if the neeedle bearing will fail?

Peace of mind was worth the added expense.

I hear that, but my concern is I keep reading that you need some tool and if you don't have it the shop could butcher things? Any way to ensure whoever does it is competent not to F it up? If only $60 mind as well buy one for sure. I don't live in an area with many off road shops and if there are any, not many 'yotas

Honestly, a AAL is a bandage for a poorly designed leaf pack. For the price, id go Dakar and not look back. They tend to be a little stiffer but hold weight much better.

On the accessories, I'd make to ask whomever you are talking to about them. Most guys will package match.

is the OME carrier bearing drop bracket necessary? Thats different than a diff drop?
