    Hi Tacomaworld,

i would need some help identifying my Dakar springs.

I bought my truck back in 2018 used and the springs where already installed. Now I added a few more mods and ripcords wedge camper and I think I have to upgrade my leaf springs to accommodate for the higher weight.
I thought to just add a leaf (AAL) but I need to know which spring I exactly have and unfortunately the stickers on the leafs are not readable anymore.
So by looking at the pictures, does anyone know which leafs are installed on my truck.

    thanks already

Looks like the same pack that I put on 2013 and they are the heavy load pack. Same amount of leaves. 096's if I recall correctly.

    Thanks

Next question would be, if leafs can wear out prematurely when they go off-road a lot (I assume so) and how long do they normally last under normal conditions?

So do my springs look worn out or just overweight and would AAL fix it?

So I made the decision to get new springs and from the research I have done it seems like new OME's are not going to last me very long. Now I am researching other options and came to the conclusion that probably the Deaver Stage 3 are the best for my usage, but unfortunately they are expensive and I am still debating if I really want to spend the money, or should maybe give the Icon RXT a try.

My Truck is only used for camping trips (its not my daily driver) and then I try to hit the backcountry with forest trails and once a year we are doing a big trip to the rocky mountains, where I am also taking the truck on Trails like Imogen Pass (so easy to intermediate rock crawling).

    Some information on my truck:
    - 2009 Tacoma Double cab short bed
    - Ripcord Wedge Camper
    - Steal bumper with tire and Gas carrier
    - 11gal watertank
    - arb fridge with slide out

All the weight calculated together is at around 800lbs, which is constantly on the truck plus the usual camping equipment.

My question now is, if the Icons hold up to this high weight over a long period or should I go with the Deavers, which apparently can handle heavier weights.
It would be nice to save the $600 when possible, but when the Icons bulge after maybe one year of use then it is just not worth saving the money.

I'm skeptical there is a large difference in fatigue life between OME, ICON, and Deaver leaf springs and would be interested in hearing some true analysis of the topic. They are all simply springs made out of steel after all. Is the alloy different? Heat/cold treatments different? I have no idea, nor have I met anyone that does. There might be other ways to compare the leaf packs from the 3 manufacturers.

Yes I agree, but in General there are so many different variables (steel used, amount of leaf's, thickness of leaf's, heat treated, how far the leafs are bend aso) that maybe one of the manufactures found the best middle ground to combine these variables.
I think my truck is probably on the higher end of the weight and the OME's are just not made for the weight. Also reading through many different posts, it seems like people are not as happy with OME like they used to be.

Note there is more than OME leaf pack rated for different loads. Are you comparing apples to apples? I have little familiarity with the offerings from icon and devear.

I believe OME offers an additional leaf that works with the spring pack I posted earlier.

I looked up deaver’s offerings and their stage 1 seems comparable to the OME mediums (0-300lbs), their stage 2 to OME heavies (400-600lbs), and their stage 3 is above and beyond anything OME offers (700-1000lbs). This doesn’t say anything about their respective fatigue resistance however.

Ok, I finally went to weight my truck today and the results are as follows:
    Steer axle: 2960lbs
    Drive axle: 3220lbs
    GW: 6180lbs

With fully loaded for camping and the wife in it, it will probably be around 6500 -6600 lbs

Does anyone know what my constant static load is for the rear axle? unfortunately I can’t find the standard empty weight for the rear axle
