Replacing the drivers side CV axle on my 06. This seal/dust cover is located behind the spindle/hub which the drive shaft goes thru. Seems like a dust boot of some sort but my truck is in pieces so I wanna get this part ASAP. Wanna know the right part number/name to tell the parts store. Any takers?

Why do you need to know? You can remove it if you need to.

^ It's expendable. Needs to be replaced over time. Seals don't last forever and that one isn't looking very old as it is.

I know I can remove it. It's all chewed up and needs to be replaced. That's why I am asking, because I needed to call the parts store and order one before they closed tonight so I could pick it up tomorrow on my lunch break, they have to transfer it from another store. I didn't know exactly what the part was called.

    Thanks for the replies gents!

The small circular spring popped out of the seal, and the lip of the seal is gone on one part of the edge, making it so the spring(?) won't seat back to where it needs to be. I would probably be okay for a little bit, but I wanna do it right while i have everything apart

Is this just normal wear and tear? The truck is an 06 and the busted seal is original AFAIK. I just recently installed a 3" OME Kit about a month ago. Would the steeper angle of the cv axle cause this to wear out faster?

Sooo disregard this post ^^^. I think they screwed up and sent me the wrong seal. It is the same diameter as the original, but the outer lip is roughly 2x as wider/taller(?). I gave it a shot and installed it, along with a new cv axle, and now I have a pretty discouraging grinding/rubbing noise in the front, which increases with speed, and does not change when I apply the breaks. I would compare the sound to when gravel or dirt gets in between the break pad and the rotor. I feel like the taller lip is rubbing on something it shoudn't. I guess I'm gonna take the old seal to the dealership and see if they can get me the RIGHT one. Any suggestions are welcome. :frusty:

Napa told me they couldn't get it. Is the inner and outer seal the same? They only had a listing for the outer.

    No they're different.

I got my outers from national. I had inners from Toyota but I ordered an extra from National (long story).

IIRC the inner I got from National/Moog looked the same as the toyota inner wheel seal. As did the outers but I mangled those a little taking them off, still had no issues with installation or running em.

    NATIONAL 710573 Wheel Seal $ 9.55 $ 0.00 1 $ 9.55
    NATIONAL 710477 Wheel Seal $ 8.61 $ 0.00 2 $ 17.22

710477 is the part number on the box for my alleged inner wheel seal, from National. Mine was still different though, as I described above. Can you specify which of these two parts you listed above are the inner vs outer? Hopin they didn't give me an outer wheel seal

On a side note, I drove the truck last night and this morning, and the noise has almost completely disappeared. It's there but very faint, maybe whatever was rubbing has worn down a little bit? I still wanna make sure I have the correct parts installed

From what I could tell it looks almost exactly like Toyotas inner seal. Toyotas seal comes in plastic and greased though.
