Man that is the first solid possible answer I have heard in here. I managed to duplicate the noise while the manager was in the car with me. He said it was not heard by the techs because I described it as an AC issue but he believes it is a drivetrain noise. But I only hear it when the AC is on. So after he fixed the rear diff he stated several other new trucks on the lot do the same thing so unless Toyota comes out with something to address it he is going to have to characterise the noise as normal.

Not acceptable answer to say the least. Also, my rental 2017 TRD sport did the same thing and guess what.....the AC blower motor broke. It sounded like a golfball in a blender when I turned the AC on. Maintenance tech said it was common and they have alot on order. Described the problem as plastic failing around a metal pin in there but unsure if it's related to this noise for sure.

I have been having this noise come up a lot more lately (24k miles now) and I never linked it to using the AC during the warmer months until I found this thread. Happens a lot when I merge onto the highway or accelerating in the 40-55mph range. I know its a small noise but it drives me nuts so I will bring it up when I go in for my last free service; hopefully I can get it on video or it does it when they ride with me to prove it.

    Stock for now....
Oh shit I thought I was hearing things but that shit happens to me to between 2-3k on acceleration. I hear it intermittently but could never replicate it.

I traded her in the other day....too many issues. Leaf springs started squeaking like an old truck and that just did it for me. Good news is it held it's value and I got a great trade in offer. New F150 STX is the new ride with the 2.7 Ecoboost and it's an INCREDIBLE difference, and only paid 31k.
