Ok, so here's the deal... I've always wanted a project car/vehcile that I could just cruise around in on weekends. I drive my Tacoma all week and after having it for several years, I'd like to give it the weekends off.

So, here is a basic list (with pics) of several different ideas for project cars.

I know there are a lot of mechanics/car finatics on here... What I'm looking for is something that I can still find parts for, something pretty reliable, and something fun to drive. Obviously I know that something built in 1934 will take a lot more effort to find parts... and the pics below are just samples.

What do you think? Are there any recommendations out there? (P.S. I'm not looking for a cookie cutter muscle car, like a Camaro SS, per say)

My favorite on the list is the 67 GTO. Classy car all the way. Not on the list would be a 58 Impala convertible, or a 59 Impala with the fins. All 3 would make awesome weekend cruisers.

    58 Impala convertible

    59 Impala

Chevelle FTW, then the vanagon, just because I am a deadhead.

I have owned a couple muscle cars both were Chevy's. IMO they are a lot easier to find parts for and the prices cheaper. Especially when it comes to trim and engine. The GTO is awesome, but prices for GTO stuff are inflated.

VW beetle, IMO. If I were to get a project car, that's what it would be, paint it metallic blue, ragtop, just for the misses and I, well, a man can dream can't he?:D

    Thanks! Good thoughts...

Thanks for the info... I'm a huge fan of the VW's... They are IMO ambassadors of peace wherever you go and people love them.

This is my weekend cruiser, '86 GT 5 speed. Below that is my new project car, '68 Fairlane 2dr hardtop, factory 302 with a/c. Don't count out Fords they can be picked up cheaper than a lot of the "classic" Chevy muscle cars, and parts are widely available. Don't forget some of the modern classics too. I had a Grand National and Typhoon before and they were def. head turners especially leaving the light in the Typhoon at 10lbs of boost and all wheel drive. Now I kinda miss it.

At least THEN, she wouldn't give me crap for not letting her drive it - like she does when I tell her she can't drive the Tacoma...
