You should get the SR 2wd access cab and mod it as you go along, eventually turning it into a 4x4 dbl cab with the option to add a scoop in case you want it to be sportier, make it your own.

IMO, Smart. For $1,700 you get a bunch of upgrades. Wheels/tires, black interior, LED DRLs, wireless charging, inverter, turn signals in mirrors, etc, etc. And that's not even including the rear locker and upgraded diff and brakes.
That's a whole lot of bang for an extra ~5% of MSRP.

Nice! You won't regret it. See if you can find one with the Tow Package. It's a bargain for what it included on my 2014.

I mean I wanted the sport as my daily driver because of the suspension tuned for the streets but I like what the offroad has but I just can't drive it like a sports car and isn't as good on turns compared to the sport from what I've heard from people in the forum

You can't drive any of them like a sports car: Even the very sophisticated Toyota stability control system won't save you from everything. Volvo pioneered roll-over stability control to detect an immanent roll-over and attempt to prevent it in their SUV's. It, or a variant is in everyone's suite now: Folks are still rolling them over across all brands. Go figure.

Alright so my dealer called me for having a 2023 tacoma trail edition showing up on their lot. He says it's basically almost the same as the off road only with a cooler in the back. Anyone want to run by me on what the trail edition is and how it is compared to the off road. Because I told him I'm set on the off road.

I'm not an expert on these newer trims but
The TRD OR has the multi terrain select and crawl control. Trail edition being an SR5 has different suspension than the TRD OR.
TRD OR should have the nicer interior too.

Go to the Toyota website and look at how the different trims are outfitted. From a cursory search, the Trail Edition looks like a lot of fluff for a few thousand dollars, but you should check it for yourself and your tastes.

Do not believe anything the sales guy says; he is just trying to sell you the truck he has. If he had a Sport, he'd say that's pretty much the same, too.

I figured as much. I read it's basically an sr5 with off road features. It's just taking awhile for the OR trims to show up and the trail edition just showed up

I'd take a look at it if i were you. If they're offering a deal in it.....

The TE was out for me because I needed heated seats, that's all. I like that my OR has leather, better headlights, a six foot bed, and a softer suspension, none of those are a requirement to me. As far as MTS & CRAWL....meh.
The TE comes with nicer wheels than the OR and a nicer grille.

They both have a locker which is as high a priority as heated seats to me, I play in basically sand. A locker helps me where MTS hasn't.

If i didn't need the heated seats, the TE would fit my needs.

    What are your needs?

My needs are for it to be reliable and be able to take ugly back country roads like a boss. Especially here in Texas even though I'm not going to be a serious off roader it's better to have it and not need it vs the other way around

I just picked up my new 2023 Tacoma TRD Sport V6 and it has a regular key (that integrates a remote to open doors) that you have to rotate into the lock to start the engine. I know there is an option for a push button start but that is an option, not necessarily something you get unless it's an SR5 or something
