Help me select tires...

    Pathfinder AT from Discount Tire Direct. I put a set on my truck recently and they are damn near silent. And I chose them because they are light weight, cheap, and have incredibly good reviews.

    Yeah.
    Man, lots of love for the Coopers here. Maybe they've changed, but I hated the ones I had on my 2009, I think those were the ATS. Rode terrible, wore terrible, slippery when wet. But, maybe they stepped up their game, that was a few years ago.

    Anyway, you can't beat the Michelin LTX M/S for the driving you describe, but it's got that passenger car tread -- all your choices look a bit more aggressive. I've had the Michelin LTX AT/2 that were also really good -- a bit more aggressive tread, but not like your list.

    Of your list, I would choose the Hankook or Nitto, but I don't have any experience with either.

    the at3's are great tires, been very happy with them. I mostly pavement pound including drives between Oregon and British Columbia. No issues with noise or comfort. 46 lbs too, which is nice

    I have KO2's I love them but they slide when road is wet especially turning the corner and they are only at 35lbs of air

    Soon to be TRD upgrade...
    I had two sets of Firestone destination AT’s on my 06 tundra lasted nearly 50k before one hit a nail.
    Live in New England were an all around great tire.
    Remember hard cornering and burnouts.... don’t last long for any tire!

    2.5 inch suspension lift front with rancho 9000 quick lift struts, rear rancho shock absorbers with 2.5 inch sky jackers add a leaf springs in rear. extra 2 inch long braided front brake lines with radiator flush, transmission flush, brand new front brake rotors, calipers, and shoes all done myself. more to come

    I am not going to tell you how to spend your money, but here is my experience. With the stock 265/65r17 Firestone destination le2s I consecutively got 24.8 mpg on my 40 mile trip to work (80 miles round trip). Half country roads, half interstate into a busy city (20 miles of stop and go to and from work). I work for a tire company, and a mistake by the service manager gave me access to a set of 265/70r17 bfg ko2s for $100 a piece, Load range c. I now average 21.5. All calculations done by hand

    Not trying to start an argument, just posting up my experience.

    8.5 Fisher XV2, some switches, some lights.
    Try running them at 60 front & 80 rear :laugh: It's fine for towing, but they've got zero flex and they'd slip every time I hit one of those road stickers in the rain. Plus running at those pressures would burn the centers of the tires out in no time. I dropped mine to 50 & 60 for daily driving and it improved the ride a lot, and they're wearing more evenly. Still slippy in the rain, though. Makes me wonder how they'll do when there's snow on the roads.

    i know they aren't on your list, but BFG A/Ts are great...have had 4 sets to date (even though I switched to Cooper STT PROs, but will be switching back, hopefully soon)...... i always went with 265/70-17
    Here is a chart I made when tire shopping... gave me an idea of size of tires as well as impact of rolling with larger tires.... I would love to roll 285s but think I would have to regear the diffs..... larger the diameter the more sluggish the truck will feel, unless you regear..

    Yeah.
    On the 2nd gens, the speedo is off by a little bit. Going up one size in aspect ratio actually results in a correct speedo reading. Not sure about the 3rd gens, maybe they fixed that.

    speedo becomes spot on with the 265/75R16 sized tire ... that stated, it makes the odometer off (read lower) by a smidge. Multiply mile readings by 1.034 for correct mileage.


    Again, any AT tire is WAY overkill and will actually preform worse than a proper tire for the job of the OB (like the michelin defender ltx), Unless OP wants the AT aggressiveness for the looks, he would be much better off with a proper tire.

    I don't have any close ups of them, but here are 2 pics. I'm in the process of getting a toytec lift put in to give me a little bit more soacs in the wheel well. It's a 2.5" spacer in the front and a Add a Leaf for an 1.5" lift in the back.

    This was the case on a 1st gen I had a few years back. I ran 32x11.5's and the speedo was perfectly on with one size up. I noticed on my 4th gen 4Runner that I have now, with 265/75/16's it is about 1mph off.

    I've researched tires for months. The correct tire for you is the Michelin. If I didn't go off pavement I'd get that one. I'm a KO's kinda guy as I have them on my Sprinter and love them. I was going to change my 16" wheel for 17" so I could buy a C rated KO2 as I do live in Idaho and have lots of places to go off road. Also- this is my first post. ;)

    I'd add the Toyo Open Country ATII's to your list as well. Great tire, but I am biased.
