Scan it with Spybot Search And Destroy and Malwarebytes. Install those program then load your computer in safe mode with no internet connection and do full scan.

Well I installed Chrome and everything seems to be running lightning fast. I think firefox just got some kind of isolated virus that caused it to bog down like crazy

dosent mean your free and clear, you may have just put a bandaid on it for now. Its best to run the scans as a preventive measure instead of it being to late... just my opinion

Run a good antivirus, multiple malware/spyware cleaners, clean the hard drive of un needed files, empty the recycle bin...........then, defrag it using a standalone defragger (not the windows one).
Check download.com for antivirus/spyware programs, and defraggers.

For antivirus I got lucky and scored a great deal on kaspersky..........defragger I think is auslogics or smart defrag.

The other option is to save anything important, download ubuntu, make a boot disc, wipe out windows and install ubuntu..... faster, uses minimal resources, its free, and not a big virus target compared to winblows.

U also wont have to deal with all those nag screens.........u know the ones, "this program is trying to run, did u want to run it?" ............"wait, are u rlly sure u want to run it?"...................... "ok, but your positive right?"

Vista drove me nuts with that crap, and I forgot the workaround.

Well I have Microsoft Security Essentials... I know nothing about it, but it is doing a full scan as we speak. I would love to get a new laptop all together and just not deal with this one anymore, but they are expensive. I would like a 64 bit something or other with at least 6-8GB of ram, and 500GB HDD or more, so I can actually run games and other big programs. But the computers I want are near the $1000 mark. And I always hear the Macs aren't that great for gaming? I would love a macbook pro but I can never justify spending that much just for a laptop.

Build ur own desktop for a fraction of the cost of either. Its not that hard at all, newegg.com or tigerdirect.com have good prices and bundles.

Microsoft Security Essentials is actually great. One of the best for finding problem bugs but you need to be running a firewall too but this doesn't matter if you already have bugs, trojans or worms. Most PC debuggers will not be able to find the really bad stuff. Depending on your PC you can do all this but you might need some significant upgrades. Laptops are funny about video cards. If you want to update that you will most likely need a new PC. If you want to run games you may as well buy a Desktop which you can upgrade. You can build your own for about 800 including windows. If you have windows that knocks out 120 bucks. Lots of variables...

If you actually think that you are HUGELY mistaken. There just arent as many because ppl don't write them as much. I would say now a days though that that myth is debunked due to more ppl using those machines. Apple OS is no less vulnerable than Wins. Its just that 80% of PC are running Win so most viruses, trojans and worms are targeted at win PCs because of market share which directly correlates to effectiveness in the bug.

I do have an HP desktop. I got it as a gift as a younger teenager, it was a $1000 setup. It doesn't even have 1 GB of ram on it. I would have to turn it on and check but I don't want to right now. I did update the video card in it about 7 years ago but it's useless now. It is actually a fairly nice computer, hooked up to my 32" Vizio flat screen, I just don't use it for anything ever. I have been wanting to build that up into a gaming setup, but I don't know anything about that stuff really. It would need all new ram, and video card, and hard drive space.

Backup all of your data (My Docs) Ditch Vista and get win 7 professional. Upgrade to DDR2 PC2-6400 • CL=6 • Unbuffered <-- your laptop Max 4gb ram which under 32-bit (x86) will only show and use 3.25gb ram. I am not sure that the processor you have will run 64-bit (max 12gb ram). You will never be able to do serious gaming with a celeron as it is meant for light pc use and not a gaming PC. Also you prob have onboard video which will not render high end modern video games. If you really want to get fancy upgrade your HDD to a 7200rpm drive or an SSD (I recommend samsungs). This will make your current laptop very fast but will not be an all around PC for gaming.

A 7yr old desktop is garbage TBH. Its old tech and not compatible with modern technology. What chipset is it? What processor is it running. What Socket is the motherboard?
