Help me spend this birthday money!!

Here is the deal, ive been saving for awhile and have my 18th birthday coming up in about a week! I am really wanting to get a All Pro or Pelfreybilt front and rear bumper along with slides. What would you guys suggest. I have a 14 4 banger tacoma, i am also gonna go with the Old Man Emu Complete lift. What do you guys think of what i should go with all pro or pelfreybilt. Im really liking the new APEX bumper from all pro, Just looking on some info that you guys know that i dont.

Questions:
-Should i have them Powdercoated or do something different?
- if im getting the front bumper and rear is there anything else that needs to be done?
- Has anyone had any negative experiences with simple traffic accidents that resulted in more damage because of their after market parts?
- How bad would it effect my power and MPG

The only thing I can comment on is anytime you add more weight, the more the engine has to work. More weight=worse mpg. Especially with your desire to add a lift...I'd stick with aluminum as much as possible.

 

Your 17yrs old and have a 2014 tacoma--very nice!
More weight is going to bring gas mileage down. I'm looking at aluminum bumpers.

after armoring my truck with steel everywhere I tend to agree. also makes the truck less capable offroad and on road with the more weight you add.

great thing about tacomas is low weight and you loose that quickly with steel. if your not going to beat it to death aluminum is nice for bumpers and maybe skids. after being side swiped by a BMW at 15-20 mph and receiving zero damage because of my steel sliders - I'd stick with steel for them. even if you have aluminum skids you can always try and hit the high point of an obstacle with a slider.

 

I just ordered the DIY aluminum bumper from relentless fab, If you know someone that can weld you can save a good bit of $.

Gears help if you lift and do bumpers.

Instead of powder coating you could use spray on bed liner. It's cheaper and easy to touch up I hear

Yes, with the option of heavy load or light load

 

2.7? Don't mess with it.

Weight will hurt mileage and performance.
You start talking lift, it's going to look goofy on the stock tires.
Go to larger tires and your mileage and performance is REALLY going to take a crap.
Regear to get the performance back, then your highway mileage gets even worse.

Save your money for a V6 truck.

 

right now i have 265/75/16. Got rid of the 245 stock tread. Im might save and try to snag a trd pro when they come out.. But thats in my dreams

 

Worst mod I ever did was larger tires on my '94.
Awesome truck and I ruined it.

 

dude if you put armor on your 2.7 it will just make your truck even more gutless.

 

Take this from another young kid who sp ends too much on his truck! Save it as much as possible! But I would definitely do the lift before the bumper, what about getting too much weight on that four banger!

 

My advice is that if you're buying your own truck/making payments and it's not paid off, use your birthday money to pay down the loan. I wouldn't have done that at 17, but hey.... lol
