    I read what you typed.

It still cost, they are not giving them to you for free or at no extra costs.

But I prefer a manual transmission access cab? And an air locker like I stated. Plus if I was ever to foresee my self in that position I would just hit it faster and harder!

Speed breaks parts. 4WD allows for slow crawling and preserves the trail, especially with traction control or lockers.

Yes they are if you buy the Off Road TRD... the traction systems come at no EXTRA cost.

@David K but you still have to pay extra in order to get that. Which does not come with the manual transmission option. So my argument for the sport is... "why not pay the same amount for a manual TRD Sport with an arb air locker vs a stock manual TRD off-road"

This biggest argument I could see in this case would be the warranty support.

considering the well known rear diff leaks on the 2016-17 trucks if you installed an ARB locker in the rear and the diff later had problems that required substantial work I could see Toyota not honoring the drivetrain warranty.

other than that to each his own, buy whatever trim you like.

I have not read the thread just your original post. And I have to say I've wondered the exact same thing. The sport is capable but the locker and crawl were important to me. Yep my Fox suspension should be here today. While I use mine for offroad hobbies I have I gotta say I really like a small 2-3" lift with 34" tire's :) so I can see a basic kit for the sports . But a couple of my friends who's trucks have never seen dirt have Kings and Fox ??? Glen has kings and likes to talk about them :) lol i like glen !!!!

I bought the TRD Sport DC manual. Also I am probably off road more than 90% of the guys here. So why did I buy the sport? Because I drive 25-30K miles a year on the road. When I say I am off road more than most that only means maybe 50 miles a month or 600 miles a year. What's that...2% of my total miles? That means I am on the road 98% of the time! I bought the truck that fits my needs, unlike some who mount a lift, Kings, RTT and bed rack and they never leave the road. I will buy some Cooper AT3's before winter and that will help off road too. Other than that, I do just fine without crawl control and a locker haha. My last 4Runner had all that and I never used it. Different needs for different folks, but I am a pretty practical and logical guy. I do like the scoop tho...

For my everyday needs I thought a long bed would be more practical. OR model not available in Canada with a DCLB. Mine is not lifted either and dont get me wrong, would like a 2" lift but don't need it. I think for my off road needs and Canadian winter driving the Sport is capable enough. My plan is to run the stock Hitachi's out and possibly look at Billsteins then. I did swap for the OR wheels when purchased. Could not live with the sport wheel/tire setup.

Exactly this. My current Taco is a 03 ltd prerunner. I got it because of the color matching. I don't like the black fender flares. Looking at buying a new 17 and am looking at the sport, which I will probably lift. Why? Because of the hood scoop, the color matching, and I will lift it because I think the stock tires on the sport look just a tad too small for the frame of the truck. I'm not planning on doing a monster lift, probably just a leveling kit so I can get 18" wheels.

    That's a great reason!
But I bought my Tacoma primarily for offroad use . I like running around in it sometimes , but really like the fact it can get me to spots I want to be for fly fishing hiking and kayaking. Plus some good old fashioned exploring.
