    Hello,

I joined this site so I could get help with my decision. Plus I hope to join the Taco family very soon. I’ll try not to drag on to much. My dad has a 98 Tacoma that I have always loved and ever since he got it I’ve wanted one of my own. I am in the market now for one and am stuck on two choices. My main needs/wants is 4x4 with a double cab so I have more room for my kids and passengers. I could go with a used 2016 blazing blue pearl SR5 V6. It’s $31,568 with 29,280 miles. Or I could go with a 2019 TRD Off-road for $36,758. I don’t do much off-roading but would like to have the option so that I could. I also like the new tech in the off-road. The charging pad, the crawl and off-roading capabilities and keyless start. I really want a truck bed cover and to have the bed line X’d and windows tinted. My dilemma is do I go with the new TRD off-road and keep it as is because after that I won’t be able to afford the cover or line x for a while or do I save a couple thousand dollars and go with the used SR5 and spend an extra $1000 on the cover and the line x but sacrifice all the modern technologies that come with the newer models. I’m probably missing key information in my post so feel free to ask me anything I left out. Thanks and hope you all can help!

My opinion... the used SR5 is overpriced. I’d buy new IF you plan on keeping it for a very long time. That being said, you can get a better price than $36,7XX - just my opinion.

The blazing blue Pearl's have possible paint problems.... I would go with the OR if going with the 4wd..

Line X is worthless on a Tacoma due to the plastic bed, plus the SR5 is overpriced. On those two options, get the 2019 OR.

    Why line x a composite bed? This isn't 1998. ;)

You should do thorough test drives of any truck you are interested in. Particularly 3rd gens. They are nothing like the '98 you are use to. You may, or may not, like the differences.

There is a lot of grumping around here about things that should have been discovered on a test drive.

Welcome to the forum. Go with the 19, the used one is overpriced. By the way the bed is plastic (composite) so most Line-X places will tell you that it won’t stick without a lot of prep work such as bead blast, sanding or chemical etch. Just buy a bed mat to keep stuff from sliding around and enjoy. Post pictures when you get your new Taco.

That’s the price tag on a new sr5! I’d go with the 19 off-road! And haggle then a bit you can get it cheaper!

Why would you line x a composite bed? Buy the tonneau cover off of craigslist on on this forum. I got mine for $300.00 had to drive 6 hrs round trip though. Get new truck!

Tacoma bed is composite, no need for line-x.

If 5k is too much of a stretch for you to buy new and unused with more features then :anonymous:

If you can get that used one for 28.5k than that would be better. Even then though. When you’re under 10k vs used and new, for me it’s a clear choice personally.

And for what it's worth, I purchased @ 2016 TRD off road with premium and tech 22k miles for just over 30k out the door...that SR5 seems a tad over priced.

I say look around some more, you can get a better deal on the new one, plus look at the resale value 30k miles 3 years older plus not as many options for only 5k less? You can probably find an OR for in the 34k range if you look and haggle.

The better deal will be the new one, plus you can get that down a little more. A OEM bed mat is what you really want, I didn't think I needed one at first, then I had to haul some items, the next day I bought the mat.

Everyone has covered the line-x thing so I’m gonna add a thought about the wireless charger, it’s worthless! It might charge a phone if you drive cross country. That said I love my 18 Off-Road and I’m voting you go with the 19 and save for mods as time allows.
