If Utah is anything like Colorado right now, it's smoky as all hell. Thanks California! It's supposedly sunny today, but the sky is just a grey/orange color...

Aren't there some big fires burning in CO right now? The Grizzly Fire I think I heard of

Don't get me wrong, we have our fair share of fires going on right now too. It's pretty much just marked in the calendar for Aug/Sept out here

Yes, we do have some large fires of our own, for sure. I think today's insane smoke layer might be more about Colorado than California. But, over the last week, it's been pretty smoky every day, and the general weather patterns often bring us West Coast smoke. Definitely teasing by "Thanks California"... mostly. :D

Big Sur is rad but probably packed. My vote would be to primitive camp or drive into a campsite near the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. Those gnarly things are the oldest in the world. It’s high enough altitude to get you out of the heat. Lots of beautiful spots.

Oh heck, I can beat that. My eldest son was conceived in the back seat of a '68 Nova at a drive in. Too bad it's now a mini storage or I would have taken him and his fiance there and told the story. Sure wish I still had that Nova.

Here's a suggestion. While on the trail, get it stuck real good. As she is starting to get irritated pop the question. Stress often brings out the truth of the moment. That and it will be a much better story to tell later.

Good luck man. I'd suggest picking a spot that you could justify visiting in the future for anniversaries and what not. Somewhere fun.

At least that's what I did.

Also, are you sure about this? Because if not your 4x4 turns into 2wd because she'll own half

Does anyone live near Big Sur right now?

Based on my searches online, it appears that the air quality is pretty bad right now.
Am quickly searching for a pivot to either Mammoth Lakes/Inyo area OR may move South to Orange County/San Diego County areas.

Yeah there's a big fire out there right now apparently. Most of CA is on fire right now, it's just that time of year.

    Congrats.

You will win brownie points if you do it at the place of the first date, or sparking up an important memory/inside joke if the location is new. My coworker also gave me the suggestion recently to hire a photographer to secretly stalk you and record the moment. They wound up putting that photo on their mantle, while their wedding album collects dust.

ive been all over the place about this, our first date was a taco place (currently closed) right down the street from where we live now. I’ve decided on the beautiful spot/“fake vlog” as a way to capture it (I have good equipment for this). Had a full plan (thanks to @socalexpeditions help) at Big Sur area, but am now scrambling to find a place that is fire/smoke free.

    UPDATE:

I ended up nixing Big Sur last second due to the unpredictable nature of the fires in California (or predictable since it happens every years...)

I ended up just driving down to San Diego and driving on dirt road for about 2 seconds to park and head to some tide pools and propose.

Thank you for all your support here guys, I'm thrilled to have this Tacoma and even more excited about the excellent community that comes with it.
