Help: Meso Led Total Tail

If the bulb is plugged in backwards it is still going to be receiving the wrong signal regardless of how it is physically sitting in the taillight housing…
OP is using the Vled bulb specific to the meso stage 1 kit. Flipping the bulb in the oem plug, (what you did) is the same as flipping the meso adapter harness in the oem plug.

When you “flipped the bulb in the housing” you reoriented the bulb correctly in the oem plug. That’s the only way to change the color that illuminates when the truck is in reverse.

 

For the bulb that turns orange when in reverse. Disassemble, un-plug bulb, rotate 180degrees and plug it back in. If that doesn’t work your taco is a total loss and you should set it of fire.

I’m not trying to be pedantic, just make sure that op gets the right information because his application is slightly different than yours.
Unplug bulb (harness in OPs case), rotate 180 degrees and plug back in

 

Will you message Vled headquarters with the problem and report back with a solution. Vled builds the lights. The manufacture it. They sell it on their website.

How does one rotate the bulb? It’s a 3 pin threaded keyed connector and the wiring it plugs into plugs into multiple one-way truck connector.

Sounds like the wiring harness for that side is messed up.

If it hasn’t been done already, swap the wiring harnesses from side to side and see if the problem follows. Keep the bulbs on the sides they’re on.

 

It’s okay man, we are both just trying to help. I’m just pointing out that your first response to his question won’t do anything for the OP. Your second response of reorienting the plug will fix his issue

 

For testing just turn the key on (not engine start) and put the transmission in reverse. Parking brake on so truck doesn’t roll away in either direction.

Reverse should be a simple on, then turn signal activated on either side overrides the white with amber. You should never ever have constant amber. If you do then something is miswired or you have a bad bulb.

 

Dude, you’re asking the wrong person. I’m just salesman. The people who designed, built and sell this product told me the solution to our problem. If you would to know more about bulbs and lights bulbs accessories I’ll be more than happy to give it to you their number.

 

Sorry to keep asking questions, especially since I haven’t had a chance to work on it and test it. But the bottom led light in not removable like the other two. It is fixed (I believe) and then has two plugs, one that goes to the harness and one that goes to the load resistor. What exactly am I rotating 90 degrees?

 

Yes, that makes sense, I’ll try that. And I do not have constant amber, only when in reverse the drivers side has a yellowish tint vs the passenger.

Normally, problems with LED bulbs is that they are polarized and don’t turn on at all if you installed them wrong. So flipping fixes that.

You said you had the exact same problem and your solution was to flip them, as guided by VLEDS. I am just failing to understand how that was a situation because there is no way to install the switchbacks wrong/backwards. There’s nothing to flip, the bulb has a cord coming out of the backside and everything is keyed so you can’t screw it up.

 

The yellowish tint I saw looked like the amber….if you turn on the right turn signal, does it look more amber than the left side reverse? Left side should definitely be white, so you’ve got something messed up regardless. But it should be fixable and if not VLEDS can probably sell you what you need for not too much $.

 

Rotate the bulb that turns amber on reverse 180degrees. Unplug the bulb, rotate 180degrees, and plug it back into the socket. That should fix it.

 

When I looked at the bulb earlier it didn’t look like it could be rotated, but I could be wrong. It seemed to be fixed and then had two plugs on the other end (one to the harness plug, the other to the load resistor plug).

 

I’m gonna ask again…..what are we rotating here….the bulb (the part putting out light - blue circle) is fixed to the housing it’s in. The cable is attached to the housing. The end of the cable connector (red circle in both pics) is keyed. You can not flip anything, it can only go together one way.

The gray connectors that go to the truck can also only go one way. How is anybody going to flip anything?

That harness only plugs in one way - would need to depin to flip the wires. Harness definitely could have just been made wrong which is why I suggest testing by moving the harnesses from side to side to see if the problem stays or moves.

Definitely can’t do anything at the bulb at all.

 

You’re 100% right. And there would have to be two plugs flipped and impossibly slammed together since the switchback replaces turn and backup… I’m flustered from dude man doubling down I think. I obviously can’t contribute anything else helpful here
