    Hi all,

So my idiot cousin decides to stand on my tailgate and use it like a diving board this weekend. Needless to say, both cables holding it up snapped and the tailgate smashed into the bumper leaving two dings in it. Where can I get replacement cables that might be stronger than factory?

    Thanks!

    How fat is your cousin?

I've never heard of those cables snapping... and I've put my tailgate through hell

The cables are only rated for 200 lbs (at least on the 2012). Is your cousin still alive? :p

I guess mine are pretty rusted out, it's a 2002. That and he was literally standing on the edges of the tailgate and jumping up and down because he's only 165lbs at most. So any aftermarket alternatives or am I stuck going to the stealership?

Watch out for aftermarket straps, I bought a set at a uap store and they are just a tad too long, causing the gate to rub on the bumper when the gate is down, my gate is now scratched and dinged because of it. If I would of noticed it earlier I would have bought some from the dealer.

Yeah, I decided to get OEM ones for $17 each. Saw some on ebay for $25 a pair but didn't want to take any chances.

Yeah I bought a new one from the stealership... I don't recall them being to ridiculously priced. The rubberized sheath was cracked and mine rusted, I have the gate up and down a lot hauling dirt bikes and whatnot.
