    All,
I am not able to figure a clean way to mount the 6.5" replacements in the old 6x8" bracket or even the hole. I can't find any good explanations on how to do this online, and have tried a few things that didn't work. It looks like its tight clearances once the door panel goes back on, so it will be tricky getting the oval shape to fit over the wider round speaker.

I am also replacing the old 6x8 with a new 6x8 and it goes too deep into the door, blocking the window. Any recommendation on how to bring the speaker out further from the door cleanly?

quite easy, Go to your hardware store and ask for cut offs. They usually have em there for free.

Just grab a jig saw or router an and zip away. Done deal. You can estimate how much depth you need for clearance and use 3/4 or 1 inch mdf
