If I can please get a PDF link or photo to the data link connector , the OBD2 scanner is not getting a signal from ONE of the wires.
If anyone has a PDF copy of the color code for the wires and which pin they should be connected to that would really help me out , both my scan tools are giving me a communication error.

Does anyone know the Data Link OBD2 protocol for the 1st Gen ? Is it ISO , KWE CAN ?

Sorry , let me rephrase that:
I meant to say that which protocol is used for the OBD2 scan diagnostics for the 1st Gen Tacomas ?
    1. KWP2000
    2. ISO9141-2
    3. CAN BUS
    4. ISO15765-4
    5. ISO14230-4
I am trying to pinpoint which wire is NOT getting a signal when I put my scan tool onto the OBD2 port ?

The previous owner had CUT the OBD2 connector off , I was able to trace and locate all wires ( Thanks to Dm93 ) and I soldered a new connector. But , I am getting a connection error , unable to communicate with vehicle.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
It's ISO9141 on early models but it changes on later ones

It communicates on Pin 7 which according to the standard OBDII connector layout should be ISO9141 also known as K-Line.

I belive it rests at 12v when it's not communicating but I'm not 100% on that.

I got a feeling it’s the WHITE wire
(pin 7) that is not making contact. When I get home from work I will double check the connections.

I have to trace pin 7 White wire to J11 connector , I think that is where it’s not making contact

I don't have 03 on my phone but here's for 02, I would think it would be in the same place.
