I have a 2005 Tacoma Long Bed 4x4 with 190/K miles. Last week, the airbag light came on. I took it to the dealer as I needed to know the situation. It appears the wires have separated from the connector that is near the radiator. They've told me they cannot fix it since it's the air bag system but rather they would have to replace the whole wiring harness which is a $3000 dollar part plus installation. It will be close to $5000 to repair. This connector is very exposed and I can see it easily getting damaged in the location. I would think it would've been better protected. Then again, the truck is 16 years old with 190/K miles. I know it's a sensitive fix as well.

Has anyone had this issue? If so, what are my options? Can I get this fixed at a reasonable price so the system still functions or do I need to have the dealer replace the harness?

    Thanks in advance.

Is it possible to re-pin that connection
Remove connector see if there is slack in that wire or make some and pin back in

Most shops will probably decline to make a reapair like that without replacing the harness due to liablility since the airbag system is a critical safety system.
If it was my truck I'd find a connector in a salvage yard and solder and heat shrink (sealant type) the wires together (don't use butt connectors or the twist n tape) and drive it.
