I have a 2020 Tacoma OR AT 4x4 with 31,000 miles on it. So several months ago I began to notice a slight miss with the truck, mainly when under a load. The miss is very subtle and doesn’t do it all the time. It is mainly at around 1200 rpms or 1900 rpms. The best way to describe it is: it’s like a stick shift; when you have a standard in too high of a gear, it can sputter until you downshift. It’s similar to that.

so I took it to the dealer and they couldn’t find anything wrong with it and sent me on my way.
Then I took it to another dealership and they said it was the transmission, so last week they put an entirely new transmission in it. And unfortunately, it still misses. I have never had any check engine lights or any fault lights show up. I do think it is an issue with the engine though, not the transmission
Anyone have any idea what may cause this? Im at the point, not sure what I should do. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Damn, a new free transmission when you didn't even need it? That's a win.

Fuel pump issue? CPS? Has your truck had any TSBs applied?

I know right. But no, not that I’m aware of. That was my thought too, I keep thinking it’s some sort of fuel issue. It’s just so odd, because it doesn’t do it all the time. I can usually make it miss tho. Just by getting the rpms lower and holding steady so it doesnt downshift. As soon as the truck downshifts the missing stops. But like if I’m on the interstate cruising, I notice it there way more than in town.

Quite a few threads on this. Seems pretty common, especially around 40-50mph at 1200rpm. Some trucks do it, some don't. Mine does it too.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I think the plugs need changing at 30k. I’d start there. Good luck!

Have you had any dealer/service centers look at yours? I’m trying to look back at old threads, to see what others have said. I dont want to just “accept”, that it is a common issue and let it go. I paid a lot of money to buy a brand new truck and expect it to work properly. Especially when it only had 31,000 miles on it. Any vehicle with a miss, is not normal and is certainly not working properly. If I went to try and sell it and someone tests drives it, and it misses, they would most likely lose their interest of purchasing it. But it’s extremely difficult to get a service center to correctly diagnose jt, since it doesn’t do it all the time.

Try a tank of higher octane fuel and report back.

I’m glad you said that. I had thought about doing that a while back but forgot to try it

I guess it's more common than I realized. I get the same miss when cruising under lite throttle, usually in 6th gear at low rpms 1350-1600. I also sense it on the interstate but not quite as bad. I thought maybe the KDMAX-Pro tune would fix it but it's still there. More annoying than anything but doesn't seem like its right. 28,400 miles on mine. I can't say but not sure if it did this before the last TSB for the trans shifting issue or not.

I wish I could, but on mine it's more of a feeling than something you could document on a video. I'll try the higher octane this week and see if that helps.

My 2019 4cyl would have a ever so slight stutter when accelerating, not all the time, just occasionally. Got a new fuel pump with the recall and it hasn't done it since.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
The plugs don't "need" to be changed at 30,000 - I still have the originals in at 90,000 and they are all good on color, impedance, and gap. The book says to change them strictly for CARB / emissions warranty - not performance.

Or a loose spark plug. A lot of guys found a loose one when they went to change them.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
I don't think it's an octane issue but do you have a brand of fuel you use predominantly? Could play into it. I would consider a fuel issue as the system kicks between Direct injection and Port injection...which these motor do. It can sometimes cause a momentary seat of the pants sensation where it doesn't at any other point in the spectrum. I even have outboards that experience this issue.

Spend $60 and try the ATS Fuel Treatment. It's serious stuff and works way better than the shit like SeaFoam and others....that just DON'T. https://www.atscarbonclean.com/
You don't want to use the engine oil half of the combo, I doubt you'd need that for a long, long time but you have to get the combo.

Re: The transmission. Did you get a completely new factory tranny/torque converter, a factory reman, or a rebuild?
