Mines the same way. It’s more of a feeling. Not something you can hear. And a lot of times passengers have no idea until I point it out to them. They thought it was just bumps in the road lol

Yep. I use the interstate everyday going and coming from work. That’s where I notice it more than anywhere else.

I do run the AC regularly in the summer, heat in winter, but I have tried turning it off to see if it helps. Doesn’t seem to make a difference

Yes, I asked to ride with the tech and said he could feel something, but it seemed "normal". His suggestion was to use ECT to hold the rpms higher. Unfortunately mine feels like you're driving on a bumpy road when it acts up, and the dealer is on a bumpy road... it's just not that noticeable in that case. He didn't seem interested in pursuing it. I ended up buying a Shift Sense Pro, but then sold it. I just deal with it now. Sometimes drive in S5 if it's bothering me.

I have noticed it has a really soft tick to it. But in all honesty, I’m not sure if that’s something or just the normal sound. Ever since the miss started, I notice anything and everything now with the truck cause I’m really paying attention to it. Sometimes I may be overthinking the issue and worrying about something that isn’t any issue at all.

They never said anything about it being a used/reman. Just that they were putting a new transmission in it. But when I got the paperwork, after they finished, it does say “Reman ATM”

I do normally go to a Shell gas station cause I use there rewards .

@Justinhisle Did your truck just start doing this after 30kmi? Mine has done it from day 1.

Gotcha. Yep mine is the exact same as yours. To most it just feels like a bumpy road. The first dealer I went to said they didn’t notice anything. So the 2nd dealership I went to, I told them I would ride or they could ride with me, if they weren’t able to feel the miss on there own. But didn’t have to do that cause apparently they did feel the miss, but thought it was the transmission. It’s just bugging out he crap out of me. And I don’t want to take some long distance trip and the truck completely crap out on me.

I did notice since I bought it, almost everytime I would start the truck and leave my house. It had a slip/miss when I got up to like 20mph in my neighborhood, when it needed to shift gears. So I would let off the gas so it would shift and then ran fine. But it wasn’t until a few thousand miles ago that I noticed it missing pretty regularly.

I've got over 65k miles on my truck and it's had a slight miss on 87 since new. No indication of miss on tach, but at a certain speed with a certain amount of pedal, it is plain as day. It is more than a rare occurence here, plenty of guys who have logged for tuning have posted about it.

I've had it through numerous TSB's and service visits, including getting told "It's normal". $10 of higher grade gas fixes it on my truck. Not everyone is as lucky, but it's worth trying, the worst that happens is you paid extra for some gas.

Also, I replaced my plugs at 58K and it made no difference. The plugs were good to go for quite abit longer as well.

Yep exactly. Sounds like yours was identical to mine. I just filled up the tank this weekend, but next tank I’m gonna go with the higher gas

    I appreciate the help

I check mine about 30 miles after filling up and run on a stretch of road I am familiar with and know how my truck behaves. Hopefully it helps you out.

Yeah I hope so too. It drives me crazy. And thanks I appreciate the help. Makes me wonder tho, what made the tech at the dealership service it was transmission. That’s an expensive mistake

Lol, because the torque converter locking/unlocking/flexxing can cause very similar problems unfortunately.

It's part of the reason I am a big fan of starting small and working my way up the trouble ladder.

I'll probably end up buying the 100kmi oem extended warranty because of this. $1000 extra is a lot for peace of mind, but it will keep me from worrying about this issue, and all of the other tech that's on the truck.

I have my 17 tuned with the kd max and this vibration is more noticeable now at 20-30 mph. It's either my tires or the engine mounts... (I think) at this point.
I am not bad mouthing the tune, the tune is fantastic and it has made the truck better on all aspects... just trying to track down this new vibration feeling (rumble strip at the speed mentioned).

My 18 limited with 46k does a stutter step 30-40mph low rpm. It’s done it since I bought it. I’ve always figured it to be a “Tacoma thing”. A couple guys at the dealer told me theirs does it too and nobody can pin point what it is. One tech is highlighting the torque converter as the culprit but has no definitive fix. I had the truck KD Maxx tuned a few weeks ago and it disappeared at first but has returned very subtly, I almost have to look for it. The tuner mentioned higher octane gas gets rid of it. It’s consistent at least and I’ve learned to live with it, which I never imagined I could. Why do we have to live with quirks like this in a $40k truck? I don’t know, but the truck is solid in so many ways that I can let it go.

What octane works for yours? 89 or 93? 89 isn't that much more cost wise but premium is. Thanks again for the advice:cheers:
