Need the help of the geniuses on tacoma world.

I've dug through the forums and still can't get a grip on this issue.

I have a rhythmic pulsating sound on my front (what i think appears to be driver side) that doesn't seem to be connected to wheel speed.

It's a constant whum whum whum. Did the swerve test and it goes away when turning left - so I went and replaced BOTH wheel bearings. It sounds like the issue got a little better, but is not completely gone.

Brakes, rotors all seem fine. Truck has ecgs bushing instead of stock needle bearing.

Any ideas or other things I could check?

    Thanks in advance.

Perhaps the CV joints in the front axle?

Just wanted to add that I had tires rotated too to rule that out.

Whats the process on checking that? When I replaced the wheel bearing everything looked okay from an eyetest - boots and all.

    At all speeds?
Does the intensity change (louder at higher speed)?

Since my bumper is gone and fender liner is exposed, I occasionally get weird wind noises, once even making the front of the fender liner rub the tire freaking me out on the highway..

I only start to hear it once I hit 25-30mph, then if external or internal sounds dont cover it up I can still hear it at higher speeds. Intensity doesn't change.

I want to chalk it up as a weird wind noise since the rate of the whum whum sound doesn't increase with speed.

When I give up on this hunt, I'll take it to a mechanic and see what they say.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I’ll guess bent brake backing plate touching rotor.

Did not think of this. Anything in particular to look for besides eye test/loose parts?

I had the sound you describe before I got my Michelin LTX Defenders. My sound did not really change when rotating either.

Do you have a buddy with a Tacoma you can swap wheels just to test?

I have the exact same issue you’re describing. I haven’t replaced any parts yet, so not much to offer…but I am interested in seeing if somebody else has figured this out.

Carrier bearing should move a little but not excessive and rubber piece shouldnt be ripped. If ujoints have excessive play they are going out. Especially if no zerk fittings

does anyone think it could be the front diff going bad?

i might drain the front diff to see if there’s chunks.

Who did the wheel bearings? Did you buy ones that were pre pressed with hubs?
