What did he end up doing to get his going? My fear is what this might be doing to the motor while it isn't working right.

After reading through this again i think there are a few questions to answer that may help. 1: how many miles on the truck? my s/c has gotten better with more miles. 2: have you checked the little nipple on the back of the s/c to make sure the plug is still there? mine had a little hole in it and threw a cel, and made the truck run like crap. 3: what are you running for fuel? 87 will make it run like crap, so that's something to think about. supercharger whine in my truck doesn't depend on rpm as much as throttle position. i can get it to make noise at 2k if i punch it or be quiet until 35 if i accelerate easily.

*pasted from a pm I sent the OP, figured it might be useful for everyone*

I recommend that you double check the vacuum connections going into the S/C. There are two hoses that go into the unit horizontally and one that attaches on the bottom vertically. All of these hoses are on the driver's side. Make certain that they are attached to the S/C correctly, and if you are able to open that link I posted in the thread earlier you can see if they are routed to the right places. The one on the bottom likes to shimmy loose where it connects to the engine so follow that one with your hand back there to make sure that it is connected snugly.

Also, check to make sure that your bypass valve is not getting stuck open. Here's a quick vid to show proper function when depressing and releasing. It should snap back with no hesitation or disruption. This can be reached from the passenger's side. I have my cover off in the video, but that is not necessary to do.

I'll check back into the thread tomorrow to see what you have run across.

Has 3900 miles. Was installed with 1800. I have not checked any nipple on the back of it. I am running 91 octane. and the belt is on, the SC does work. But I don't think it's very much more power than stock the way it's running right now on my truck. To feel any upgrade in power I have to be 3/4 of the way down on the gas.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Try 93 octane. Doesn't Sunoco have 94? You need all you can get.

That won't change anything. If he's not making boost he might as well be running lower octane fuel. I don't think the fuel in his tank is the issue here.

Well I have an appt tomorrow at 4:30 with the dealer again. This time I will make sure they drive it. They are going to be blown away by how weak it feels. And they are going to look like fools for giving me the run around last time. Even though I was the MORON who didn't argue back. I just assumed it was because I had never been in a SC Tacoma before. I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks again.

So I have my appt today with the dealer. Anything important I can have them check besides the test drive? Should I have them test the boost? See if there is a new "mapping" for the 13 SC?

Since I didn't update yesterday...my truck doesn't whine at idle in park, and only very slightly in gear at idle. Under normal acceleration it will get noticeable just before 2000 RPM, and under more load (like going up a hill) will be much louder and noticeable down around 1000 RPM.
    No hesitations or stumbles.

Thanks for the info. I don't hear mine til around 3000 - 3500 RPMs. I would still like to test drive yours if possible. What time do you get off?

check the vaccum bypass actuator and associated hoses.I've had one dealer screw up the plumbing. Sounds like the bypass actuator might be stuck open keeping it from making boost

Is that the same as the valve? I checked that last night and it seemed to move up and down just fine.

I believe its on the drivers side on the back of the sc. it should move when you hit the gas hard to close in order to make boost. did you recently change plugs?

Yea that is the same valve. I didn't open up the charger to see, but it was down when I tried it. So is down closed and up is open? I didn't change plugs at all. This SC was installed in July. Got all the paperwork showing the install. And how they installed it with the Airaid CAI already there. So if they blame it was because of the CAI, I will then counter that they shouldn't have installed it then.

im gonna suspect some bad hose routing on the dealer's part. when I had my SC done on my 2008 the dealer never even hooked up the fuel pressure regulator!! If they've never done one before its quite conceivable that they could have made a hose connection error. Did they give you the SC install instructions back with the original parts? maybe take a look at the book yourself and poke around under the hood to see if you can see anything?? If you dont have the instructions, let me know and I'll see if I can dig mine up and scan those pages for ya...

That would be awesome! They didn't include anything except the receipt. I bought it from someone selling it this month. And that's when I noticed the issue. I asked the seller and he said there was never anything wrong with it to his knowledge. He and I went back and forth for a while about it. And his first experience with a SC was the same as mine. So both of us have no idea if soemthing is amiss or not. I still believe there is because of the way it acts off the line. If I punch it hard it doesn't take off like I have read most on here. It has to get up to 3000 RPMs and then the whine and the SC kicks in. But again, that's only if I have the gas all the way down. It's as if it has a timer of some sorts for when the thing will start using the SC. I get normal engine sounds and power off the line. And only get SC noise and power if the gas is too the floor.
