I am installing a 2012 back-up camera/diplay mirror in an 08 TRD Sport DC. Since it is an 08, it has no wiring whatsoever. I bought the camera from a Tacoma World member and it came with the wrie harness that connects to the camera, and the connector to the mirror with a wire pigtail.

How do you hook up the mirror? I found the function of the 4 pin-outs to the camera wire harness on another thread. I need to know how to connnect the mirror 12V and ground.

I also need the wire harness between the mirror and the camera wire harness, or a way to make one. All I need to make one is the connector that connects to the camera wire harness.

Below is a picture of the camera wire harness I have.

This harness plugs into the camera. It came with a blank plug as shown in the two following pictures.

Notice the blank plug has no electrical connectors. I was wondering if anyone here knows where I can get the connectors that fit this plug. It looks like it will take some sort of narrow flat spade type connector. If I can find the connectors to fit the plug, I can make my own wire harness, since I have the end that plugs into the mirror. I would like to use this OEM connector since it it water-resistant.

I would appreciate anyone with any info that would help.

Thanks for your response. I read through your thread and the information there is very valuable, especially on the installation of the camera, and wiring up the tailgate end. I have also bought a Molnex connector for the tail gate, but it is not water tight. I have some concern with the connector corroding when it gets wet or damp.

Conector aside, what I need is how to wire up the mirror. I know where the video wires go at the mirror end, but I don't know what powers up the mirror.

    Thanks!

I see your problem now, I wasn't thinking of the mirror. I used a AVH-P4200DVD for my screen. In MJonAgs32 DIY he gets power for the camera by splicing into the reverse light and he gets screen power from his screen kit, so if I was you I would try some online toyota parts sites and get the proper wires to complete the connection between the mirror and power source.

I used electrical tape on the connector to keep everything dry, sorry if I wasn't much help.

I'll look around for infor in the mirror connections. Maybe someone here has some more info for me.

    Thanks!

I know it's a blank plug, but it has slots for connectors.

I went to a Princess Auto today. It's a Canadian auto parts, hardware and other low quality junk store. I got lucky and found door switch for the dome light. The lucky part is that it has the same type of connector as the wire harness between the camera and the mirror, however it is only a two prong connector. The metal spade type connector inside is the same. So, I bought two switches for $2 each. I pulled the spade terminals out of the plastic connector housing. They slipped in the blank plug and snapped in perfectly. I'm going to splice a shielded cable to the conector, and I will have a water tight OEM connector! :yay:
