image.jpg I am in the process of changing my inner tie rods on both sides and discovered this on the driver side. The tie rod is shot, I know that but is this grease from the tie rod or steering fluid or something else? Pardon my ignorance. The other side was clean but the tie rod was still good. A few drops of some liquid came out of the billow on the passenger side but it was otherwise clean. Steering fluid level seems fine and it hasn't been changed in over a year. Also no spots on the garage floor.

You should look for scoring marks on the shaft of the rack itself. Usually if there is any of that, there will be a slight leak. I had a small leak (some fluid escaping via that shaft) but it's small enough not to worry about. As for the grease, i can't help you with that. I would assume that is grease from the tie rod. Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in.
