If you give me some time I will do some research. When are you planning on buying? Frankly, Onkyo speakers are not good.

i went with a denon receiver and definitive technology pro monitor 800's and the pro 800 sub and i'm going in to buy the 1000 center chanel to complete my set-up finally.

i absolutely love them! dude its a little pricey but, they sound literally 20 times their size and are built beautifully the sub hits hard and sounds clear as a bell as well.

when we redid our tv set-up a couple years back i shopped only @ magnolia and i believe i still have one of the best over all systems on the market even today :)

check out definitive tech they are the bomb you will not be disappointed.

We are on the same page now. That's what I was trying to also describe above with the Blu-Ray example. Yes, new Onkyo receivers can be programmed to do such things.

Agree 100% with the vinyl being awesome, and yes - Onkyo speakers are not great. They are what I would call above average for a HTIB set.

If looking for top of the line stuff, I would start reseaching in audiophilereview.com. It may be hard to find affordable stuff there, as audiophile level components are extremely pricey. I have heard there is a budget pair of Pioneers (forgot which model) that are rated right at your price range, and audiophile likes them.

Also, do not skimp on HDMI cables, as you get what you pay for. A 2m Audioquest Carbon HDMI (5% silver plated) retailes for $250, but you can get one for $60 on eBay.

I am in the same boat as you (trying to build my home entertainment system). So far, I have a Marantz SR7005 receiver, Oppo BDP-83 blueray, and a Sammy pn59d7000 plasma 3d. I still need to get speakers, and am leaning toward either Paradigm Reference 60s, or Wharfedale Diamonds.

Good luck in you research. Possibilities are endless.

I will have to disagree on the HDMI cables. Virtually every audio test house has run tests on cables and said as far as HDMI goes buy the cheapest you can get, there really is no difference at all.

    Check out this article

BTW That sounds like a killer system, invite me over when you get it all set :D

Yea, HDMI's are a very subjective item. It is my belief that a good quality cable will have good insulation, which will help in eliminating interference with other components. Also, some HDMI's are not cabable of running certain kHz, so it really depends on what components are being ran. As far as the OP, since he is on a fairly small budget, you are correct, any HDMI will probably do the trick, as long as it transfers 100% 1080. Another drawback of certain HDMI cables is the ability to also have ethernet, but not sure if the OP is interested in that.

Yea, I'm stoked to about building my HES. Expensive as all hell though. Probably gonna be a year before I can get my speakers. Would definately have anybody over for a listen and some brews.

I agree with making sure your cables can handle the job you are asking them to do. I personally run my ethernet seperately and use optical for any independant audio aplications. However as I said before, my purely audio system is seperate from my a/v system so it doesn't incorporate HDMI at all. As far as cabling goes though you are correct, don't be stingy. Especially with audio cables.
