    OP. You may be overthinking this. The advantage to a 'stud' is that it helps to hold the parts in place while you attach the nuts. But, really, it doesn't matter if you use a 'stud' or a 'nut/bolt' combo. It is advantageous, however, to use stainless fasteners, and preferably grade 5 or 8...
