I have three dealerships in Oregon offering at least MSRP nothing more for a Pro. Funny thing is I have a deposit down at two places for one. First place to get me the truck wins. Then again, I may still get an OR as I'm considering what people here are saying.

Crap. That helps but doesn't because I'm looking at about a 20% price increase for the pro. So things get to be about equal depending on how low I can work a deal for a well equipped OR. I still value handling first, then comforts second. But both are important to me.
My understanding is the OR comes with 28 f/r sway bars while the Pro gets both at 30. Which rear bar did you put on and what size is it?

there is an manual PRO (2017) for under msrp near me. 41,8xxx I think was the number. have also gotten quotes for 500 under msrp for 2018 pros from dealers near me.

this is still 4-5K over the cost of a loaded OFF ROAD though - (local dealer quotes to me)

no rear sway on either from the factory. i got the Hellwig rear for my 2017... it was and maybe still is the only a/m option for bolt on application. well, more or less bolt on, that is.

One thing to consider is that if you're going to add additional weight to the truck in the future (bumpers, winch, etc.) you'll end up needing to upgrade the suspension anyways. I always suggest that customers go with the OR model and not spend the extra on the fancier suspension since it will need to come out anyways.

Pro's are cool no doubt and if you have the coin to burn and want it by all means get it. But from a strictly financial bang for your buck perspective the Pro is trash tier. OR with Kings is significantly cheaper and better.

Non-pro's can be had for thousands off sticker. Pro's are sticker+. That difference adds a few thousand to the already large price difference between the two. Not even close to worth it in my book because the only worthwhile difference is the Fox 2.5s which are nice but you can get a comparable/better setup aftermarket for ~$2k. Just my thoughts...when the Pro was first announced I was sold on it but after digging into it and crunching numbers I went the other way with zero hesitation.

I will admit I have not researched suspension very much. I know I want to keep factory ride height, and would prefer not to worry about warranty issues. If I did not get a Pro, I would obviously research suspension more. Right now my thought would be 6112/5160 combo so I don't have to worry about a lift.

Just so you know, King, Fox and Icon aftermarket coilovers can all be set to factory height. In fact they come set for only about a 1" lift up front which levels it...making it basically the same as the Pro height wise. These are all bolt-on very simple installs that would only require an alignment afterwards and all is good. Warranty would not be impacted in any way but of course Toyota would not warranty the new coilovers/shocks - they do however come with their own warranties.

This post sums up everything you need to know about Pro vs. OR. Pro is worth more than the OR, no one will doubt that. But how much more is the big question.

    Pro is MSRP + something
    OR is MSRP - thousands

The swing is quite a bit. And the suspension stuff is nothing to be apprehensive about. A lot of people on these boards swap suspension without issue, and reputable brands have warranties on their work.

If I get a Tacoma, it's going to be a Cement TRD OR 4x4 DCSB with AT. The only reason I may not get a Tacoma at all is the gutless engine and shifty transmission. If I can mentally get over those things, the Tacoma is a good truck.

I tested drove both, decided to wait one more year to replace my 2007'. But, as BillyToy noted, the head room in a OR is significantly greater than a Pro. Just sitting still, my head brushes the headliner on the Pro. I can't imagine taking this off road, I'd jam my neck for sure. Plus, the additional safety in having steel skin above my head vs: a piece of glass in a roll-over or a crash of any nature is far more appealing to me. Suspension is an easy fix, headroom and safety is most important to me.

If you aren't planning on changing much on the actual truck, like me, I wanted the PRO because I wouldn't have to change anything at all on it. If I got an OR, I would have to change the wheels, grill, chrome emblems, suspension, leveling kit, and more. I aint got that kinda time anymore. The PRO had everything I wanted. And I was able to find one in a manual, had to get it. Just my reasoning...

I mean...even with the sunroof it must adhere to FMVSS 216, which calls for a crush resistance of 1.5 times the vehicle weight and just recently that was up'd to 3 times the vehicle weight. Further the main support structure up there is not in the center of the roof, it's the frame along it's edges that will be supporting all the weight in the event of a rollover.

This is what has me considering which way I will decide. Luckily, the orders I have in place will not be coming in for awhile so I am in no rush with my decision.

The option I would get in the OR would have the sunroof while the Pro would not. I do not care for a sunroof and never use them. So that also has me leaning towards the Pro. But when it all comes down to it, I value handling first, not having to mess with stuff, and keeping as much of my warranty as possible with all of the comforts I desire. As far as waiting a year, I understand what you mean there. I keep thinking Toyota is going to upgrade this platform but I bet they won't. If they were, I am sure there would be leaked information as it takes over a year to test, tune, and pass regulations to get a new motor in a vehicle. From my experience usually that stuff starts to leak out a couple of years or more in advance. But I also have not researched a new vehicle this much for a long time. So maybe NDA's have gotten better???

Holy crap. Well, no way they'll get that. But even if they get 50k, it's ridiculous.

I paid retail for mine, but everyone says I got lucky. I'm starting to think that's true. Hell, is this damn thing actually appreciating in my garage!?!

I paid sticker, but it wasn't an inflated price from the dealer.

I don't know if you consider it an upgrade or not, but waiting a year will get you TSS. I personally don't want a car that does too much for me (part of the reason I love my MT). The adaptive/ smart cruise control would be the only part I might like, but I don't see myself doing a lot of long road trips.

No, the OR does not come standard with a sun roof "Moon Roof." The Moon Roof comes with both of the "Premium Audio/technology" package options which are "options" on the OR. The Pro comes standard with the Premium Audio/Technology package by default, which includes the Moon Roof. The Moon Roof can not be deleted from the Premium Audio/Technology packages and the Premium Audio/Technology package can not be deleted from the Pros. So, all PRO(s) will have the Moon Roof by default, reducing the headroom (over a standard OR) by several inches, a result of the Moon Roof mechanism (motor, tracks & slider.)

I checked into all of the options / potential deletes from options as I wanted the Pro without the Moon Roof. Even through my contacts at TRD and TMS, Toyota will not produce a Pro without the Moon Roof. So, I chose to hold off on a purchase until a later date. I am not particularly tall (5" 10.5"), but with a bad back, I must place the seat back in its most up-right position. This results in my head brushing against the headliner in all Tacomas with a Moon Roof.

Whoa, I had no idea. I guess I assumed the Pro would be sans moonroof as with 2017 model. Yeah, that makes no sense.

Maybe you can still find a 2017 Pro?
