HELP! - question about using 96-99 radio/storage tray in 04, do they interchange?

I have the 04 taco that has the CD radio on top and the useless cassette tape on the bottom and this big azz radio thing takes up like 5" of dash space.

I would like to swap it out for the older version of CD radio on top with a storage tray under it held together with a bracket.

I got used to having a storage tray under the radio so is there anyone who knows if they will fit the 01-04 tacos or not?

short of trying it I don't know, and I dont have the radio yet so im trying to see if its doable before I go to all the trouble of sourcing one.

im hoping its a plug and play swap, but I don't want to just assume this.

well I guess i'll buy one on blind faith and optimism and just "hope" it fits.

the dash doesn't look any different in the 01-04 trucks so Im hoping the radio mounts are the same

 

It will fit right in yes if you have the tray and mounting. If not just get a single din dash kit at wally mart. While your at it buy an aftermarket radio. Even a cheaper one will be an upgrade

Think any older toyota single din radios will fit. Some people use the scion ones which comes with an aux port and other features. Every toyota ive seen so far has used the same wiring harness.

 

I have an aftermarket single din stereo i just took out. I wanted bluetooth and i had a gift card so i upgraded, otherwise it worked perfectly fine. For the cost of shipping it's yours.

I don't have the tray though, and you would need to pick up a harness adaptor for it.

 

i actually have a single din Kentwood stereo with remote still in the closet from my old truck.

i pulled it to put the factory radio back in it

if you can find the tray, then that would be very helpful to me, then i can by the universal mounting brackets and i would only need to find just the cd radio then which is easier to find the the radio with tray
