Also another question. I have upgraded my shocks (king shocks), upper control arms (dirt king fab), and tires/rims. About 6/7k in upgrades. I do still have all stock parts including tires here at my house just in case I ever wanted to trade it in and could get more value in stock form. Will the insurance let me swap the parts back out?

You should be able to, you just got to be quick after they give you the final say. Had a family member involved in a nasty accident (other party's fault) and insurance sent their SUV straight to Copart and could not retrieve any of the upgrades. Insurance had to pay for all of the upgrades on top of the pay off value. YMMV

Police showed up because car was in the middle of the road. However, we did not file a police report since it was my brother and I knew I wouldn’t have a problem with the insurance. And also since nobody was hurt we didn’t have to. Was that a mistake not filing one?

Will not be easy if totaled. Once deemed totaled, the insurance company is going to push to remove the vehicle from the shop asap.

The hardest part will be asking the shop to let you work on their property. Their insurance doesn't cover a customer getting injured working on site.

hey Chris so they did get compensated for the parts though correct? Would that be the better option to leave them on or try to swap them out in case I do get another taco assuming I do not upgrade to full size.

To add to this they do not let you remove parts at a tow yard (no applicable in this case) or a auto auction (copart or IAA). Also you need proof of receipts on the upgrades.
They got paid for all the upgrades on vehicle.

If you have all the receipts I would leave them on, then get new parts with the money.

I guess not as long as your brother's insurance company is not asking for one. I get not filing a report for a blood relative that you trust as it would have caused him to get ticketed for following too close and also holding / using a cell phone while driving if that is against the law in your state. But any other situation its best to get a police report especially if you are not the one at fault. The at fault party can always start claiming stuff that is not true.

I've bought two totaled Tacos in the last year or so and neither looked as bad as yours due to the frame folded in the middle.

So a new frame at minimum. The bed doesn't look bad, or the tailgate, and they might be salvaged. The only thing other than frame is the bumper, brackets, and the cosmetic parts involved. If insurance will pay for the frame to be replaced, and Toyota does it all the time as a warranty, then your truck should be fine to drive, etc. But insurance is pretty unlikely to replace the frame.

You could get them to cut you a check, buy a new frame, and do the swap yourself. It's just doing one thing at a time until you're done. You might end up with some money in the bank.

That frame is junk, Toyota doesn't allow pulling if it's kinked

I’d be surprised if they don’t total it, needs a frame. Depends on what state you’re in and what insurance company you have as to how they deal with it, some replace frames, some don’t. Great time to get paid on the value of a truck, awful time to buy a new one though in the same breath.

yeah tell me about it being the wrong time! When I bought my truck in November for my trd sport 4x4 I paid 38k before fees/taxes! 2.5k below msrp! Didn’t have to negotiate or anything and only had to wait a few days to get itso I’m kind of bummed out! I’m in California and have wawanesa which is out of San Diego so we will see how it goes! I just don’t like this waiting game!

Wawanesa is an excellent carrier. You shouldn't have any problems or wait too long. You'll probably get your money in a few days.

If you see a grey tacoma in AZ honking at drivers - I honk at people who are driving goofy (too slow, weaving around, not in lane etc) who end up being on their phones. Seriously considering upgrading to that cadillac 4 note horn! It's getting bad out here again (since they put the no cell phone while driving law in place)

yeah I mean I hope this gets settle sooner than later. I drove by the body shop and it is still parked in the same spot as the last few days. So they have not even looked at it yet. Why do you believe it’s a total loss? Doesn’t repairs have to be like 65% of vehicles worth to be considered total loss or something crazy like that?
