On my 98 2rz, i have trouble removing the wires from the "distributor" (is that what it's still called even tho it looks different?) without breaking them, will a boot puller pliers work? If so are the cheap pliers OK? We don't put a lot of miles on our vehicles so the pliers won't get used very often.

What part are you having a hard time with - releasing the boot from the coil (what you called the distributor) or getting the actual end of the wire out of the coil?

releasing the boot, the wire ends are not stuck. and I often break the plastic boot because I can't get the clip loose.

got it. What works for me is to first push down and hold downward pressure on the plastic boot. Next, lift/pry outwards on the little retention clip (see arrow below) and then pull the boot upwards whilst keeping that little clip lifted away from the coil. Should slide right up. If the wire stays inserted into the coil, it should just pluck right out. Good luck!

Thanks I'll try it, I haven't tried it pushing down on the boot.

I have fat hands and do something like this and use a 90 degree pick tool to lift the clip upwards
