Help!! Rough acceleration-smooth idle

Hi. My 2012 tacoma has developed a rough acceleration or a miss when accelerating. Especially around 2k-3k rpms. Today I drove 5 hrs. The first 3hrs it did great. Then it developed a vibration on acceleration. As soon as I let off the gas it gets alot better. No check engine or other lights are on. Definitely missing on acceleration. Would it be a waste of time to take it to a code reader? Is it possible or has thrown a code with no check engine light? I would assume fuel is fine as this didnt start til 3 hrs into the trip. I am out of town and hope to get this squared away before the return trip. Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated. C. Drum
