    Hi Jandy!

For the most part I agree with the other post. You shouldn't put items that are really hot directly into the fridge.
But I don't believe that it needs to be at room temp before you can put it into the fridge.

Slightly hot or warm and it should be good to go!;)

My wife leaves things out for 3-4 hours depending on the size of the dish.

According to the link I posted above, you should put it in the refrigerator without a lid until it reaches 40 degrees.

It should actually be a vacuum if it's cooling, not pressure.

generally i let things cool first just to avoid all that condensation on tupperware lids but also, with things like stew for example, i like to stir it as it cools so it doesn't separate into layers in the fridge...but i'm not married either!
here's another thought, eat more bacteria--build up your immune system, haha.

Not sure about the whole spoiling thing, but I do know it'll cause more condensation inside the package and also try to let it cool a bit myself too before putting it in the fridge. Mainly because for some reason, I just don't like putting hot stuff in there. maybe your wife and I belong together instead of you two...any pics? :p

    I loled.

    Exactly.

I've eaten things I don't even remember putting in the refrigerator in the first place.

Cheese has mold on it? Shit, I pay twice as much for blue cheese from the store with mold already on it.
I made it at home for free and 2 weeks of neglect? SOLD!

Besides, the wife always tells me to eat more greens. Done baby. You specified colour not food group.

The food can go right into the fridge. Except for pizza. Pizza MUST be left on the counter, in its original box. Then, it MUST be consumed cold. It can be kept on the counter, in its original container for up to three days. :D

I dont know about you guys but my fridge has glass shelves in there and glass is cold to touch. I am afraid to let anything hot touch it for fear of cracking. I usually shove my hot food in the microwave and let it sit there for an hour. When food is room temperature I feel safer to put it inside my fridge.

From what i remeber from being a cook, According o NYS health dept. You allow the food to cool outside for 15 minutes. Then put it away. covered foods need to be vented to allow steam/moisture to escape. so that in a way the food does bot create its own bacteria eco system while cooling with a lid on.

My Fridge glass is tempered, I've never had it crack with a hot item put on it. But then I don't take anything hot off the stove directly to the fridge.
Wife and I fight more over which way the toilet paper roll is.

Don't be afraid to put hot foods in the refrigerator. The appliance is made to cool down foods. The chilling process will happen more quickly in the fridge, once again giving bacteria less time to grow in the temperature danger zone of 40 - 140 degrees Fahrenheit. If you have a large casserole or dish that needs to be chilled, separate the foods into smaller, shallow (no more than 3" deep), individual containers for faster cooling. It can take a pot full of hot chicken soup 24 hours to cool to a safe temperature in the refrigerator! Divide and conquer bacteria!
