    Road Trip!

Don't forget to add the $500 you're about to spend on gas, and the $500 you're about to spend on plane flight to the price, though. If you can find a nice comparable local truck for $6500, you can save yourself some hassle.

I'm ahead of you on that one. Got the flight locked in at $245 and just drove the same route about 6 months ago and has only ran me about 375. I used a gas calc to check to see how much it might cost me in the tacoma. It said 350 so that's probably a rough estimate. All said and done still cheaper than having it shipped tho. And yea, there's notning even close in my area even if I look around the 7k mark. It's a tuff place to find a Tacoma out here. Best I saw was a 2000 reg cab with 75k. It was pretty beat up and quite a bit of body damage to make up for the low mileage!

just bring a new air filter with you for it, just in case you need one. it can make big $$$ difference driving that many miles.

also bring a pee can with you (gator aide jug) because you cant always let it hang out on the side of the road

and some cops write public urination tickets just for wetting the highway out in the middle of nowhere  but if ya goota go you gotta go

comes in handy if its pouring down raining too, but hopefully you get nice weather the whole way

Id dew it man! Looks clean, yeah you dont have many lift options, but getting a little lift will make that thing look good. They make some all terrains that size give it a nice aggressive look.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Got my piss bottle ready to go and paid for the truck today. Now it's sitting in the driveway at my brothers house in buffalo NY and got my flight booked for June 10th... June 13th I start the drive back across the country. I don't know if you guys know anything about this or not but... I used to have a lifted Cherokee, had cragar soft 8 wheels on it. I love the look of them and would like to get a set of 15s for the tacoma BUT I've heard they won't fit properly on my truck. They're 5 lug but someone said they Might bump the calipers or something. Anyone ever heard of that? Or know of a wheel with a similar style and price that WOULD fit? Once I hit the road in a couple weeks I'll post some pictures or something. The second half of the drive from NY to CA is damn gorgeous. Again, thanks for all your help. Made it easier for me to pull the trigger and buy the thing.

I think the biggest problem with 5 luggers is the rims fit but they don't clear the calipers so most solutions are limited to converting to 6 lug

honestly for your goals its best to buy a prerunner parts truck (something with a rotten frame, wrecked truck, or blown engine and messed up body) and swap over the rear axles and entire front suspension as a whole so you get the 4wd height along with the bigger rims and tires you desire.

that would be my suggestion for the best way to mod your truck because that is what you describe and your end goal. trying to do it slowly over time will cost you way more and be harder to do.

69,000 miles on a tacoma for 5,500? Honestly I would not hesitate to snag that up at all. Im planning on moving back to L.A. in a few months and im planning on getting a ranger or tacoma to daily drive. If I was already back I would pull the trigger in a heartbeat.

he is going across the country to get it because he cant find a decent Tacoma in California so if your going there you better get your Tacoma wherever you live now and bring it with you when you move there

Yeah its a smart move, I was going to look into rangers because there are plenty of those in southern california. Im basically going to look for the cheapest truck with the lowest miles for commuting and let my tacoma be the weekend truck/ retired to desert and offroad duties only.

Lol yea. See in your info you're between Texas and Ca. Might be able to find something good inbetween! I've been looking for the past 2 months or so in and around Los angeles and haven't found much at all like he said above. But maybe you'll have more luck than I did. And as far as the wheels go, you might be right Keakar!

Yeah im from California originally but in Texas currently and hopefully moving back. Thats why I was shocked you were offered that price in california at first but be sure to post up some pictures when you get the truck and enjoy the new truck!
