This is the best advice I have seen in this thread. While there are certainly solvents that probably will dissolve the stain without damaging the paint, it is a crapshoot unless you know exactly what the stain is - paint? tar? baked on chupacabra blood? Different solvents will be needed. Just go with mechanical means and buff that shit out.

Gotta love Tacomaworld - the only place where a detailing question hits 4 pages.

Anything you do here is going to be removing or affecting the paint: buffing, rubbing, chemicals- whatever. There is a list of solvents/cleaners/processes on Autogeek.com with what materials are compatible/incompatible. Stoner Tarminator contains Xylene. Also, not all clays and lubricant compounds are created equal.

Then why is it only above my tailpipe? I get a lot more soot than most people due to my frequent short trips.

Its pretty obvious your tire kicked up something.

If your engine is producing toxic clear coat eating soot, that can stain your truck, you have even bigger issues to deal with.

Off topic. But finishing up a book called A thousand Naked Strangers... have you had a chance to read?
You have an interesting job to say the least.

Please don't use this. Scratches the hell out of the paint. Neighbors little girls used one washing their Range Rover. Not pretty.

Can a Mod move this to detailing section please? Thank you everyone for the ideas.

MEK, MPK. About the strongest solvent commonly available that will not immediately attach a two part paint system. Usually my last fall back when nothing else works.

So he should try goo gone again, even though the first post from 2017 stated that it didn't do anything? What's the logic behind this?
