So, im a young kid who currently owns a 03 TRD OR Taco (suspension has stiffen over the years) and Im considering buying a brand new 2018 Taco. Problem is, i dont know which trim to get, sport or OR. I prefer the looks of the OR because of the black fenders but I dont go offroad. The MOST i would do is maybe go on beaches or desert runs (but the chances of that are very slim. So Im leaning towards sport right now. Im getting a manual so crawl is pointless to argue about. Plus, i heard the sport handles and corners better than OR (but im used to body roll). Then again, OR looks better and has softer ride. So, which one should I get? Double cab short bed btw

Off-road, more rugged looking. Definitely manual trans. Don’t listen when someone says you can’t go wrong with either, because you can. You won’t regret the off-road.

Sounds like you need to test drive both to see what you like.

I dont want used and there aren't and new 2017s anymore. If i got the sport, it would be straight stock. OR would look like this.

Take both out for a test drive and see which feels the best for you.

Too many but also not enough mods
Just get the Sport and buy black fenders

Welcome! Not to sound lame but if I woke up in your shoes I’d keep your current truck and not spend that kind of money on a brand new truck at your age. Just my .02.

But to actually answer your question I would go with an Off-Road IF I bought new. It’s fun to dream! Ha

Both are appealing, but based on what your intentional use is, Sport would make more sense. That's what I'm going with and I'm in a similar position as you. Mostly street/freeway driving as a daily, but I want the ability for a small taste of off-roading once on a while. You can always change the fenders yourself since it's just cosmetics.

Man, i have seen vehicles like four door sedans in places i wouldn't take a Jeep Rubicon. Tell me what advantage the Off Road is again?? Google Crown Vic MOAB to see that the driver is much more important than the vehicle.
OP, you can't go wrong with any Toyota. They are all good and kudos to you for choosing a decent reliable and dependable vehicle over the wow factor some vehicles offer.

To scoop or not to scoop is the question before you. I’d go scoop in your shoes, and add black fenders if you want that look.

My main reason.....no friggin sunglasses holder on the off-road!.......which sucks. I drive a lot off road, but I’d do the Sport in a heartbeat if I was mostly in the city.

Also, how are the stock tires on the sport when the weather goes bad? I think they have Toyo Open country.

My buddy has a sport and he offroads the stock tires, no real issues. I’d run snow tires in the winter if you’re in an area that gets snow.

North VA, few inches of snow here and there recently. Weather here is bipolar. I run with costco michelin ltx with no issues. If weather is bad, 4HI and im set, I drive 50 miles 4 days of the week on small and curvy highways. No prob

If he gets a Manual Off Road it has the Sunglasses Holder.

I have a 17 OR 4x4 and love it. However if I had to buy again, I’d just get an SR5 4x4 and I would buy used. I’ve never used the crawl control or rear locker but def used 4wd plenty of times. Again I love my truck and no complaints about the OR but I would rather have saved 7 or 8K and gotten a used SR5 4x4.
