So I changed my spark plugs last night and everything went smooth.. I had my dad torque them for me while i put everything back together and the torque wrench hit the positive side of my battery and sparked. I got in my truck this morning and everything was fine except my stereo will not come on. It is getting power because the bottom lights light up and i can eject CD's but the screen its self does not come on nor will it play anything. Its a kenwood DNX7120 Ive had this happen before but it was under warranty and I sent it to kenwood and they fixed it it's now out of warranty and im wondering if it could be something else before I take it to be looked at.

I believe the radio itself is fused as well SaraLynn. You'll have to remove the radio and look either on the wiring or (most likely) the back of the radio itself.

20 years ago when I started messing with car audio they would use a glass fuse inline on the stereo's power wire..however, most or all I've seen recently have the blade fuse on the radio chassis itself on the back.

It does sound odd that it's still getting power for it to be the fuse, but that's the simple fix. If not it could be something internal.

There is no fuse on the back of the radio the only one i have it on the power cable that runs to my battery. I dont understand how it could be a fuse if its still getting power.

Check the link, I Googled the radio# you posted and got that schematic.

I agree, I'd be likely to think it wouldn't even power up but oddly a friend had the same issue and the fuse was not broken all the way but a little bit so it wouldn't work. I'd never believe it if I didn't see it myself.

Hopefully that is it... I called Kenwood to get a copy of what was wrong with it when i sent it to warranty last time just in case so hopefully a stereo shop can fix it..

Good thinking..that might just be your ticket, at least it would save some time on diagnostic perhaps plus give you a good idea of your $$ options (fix or replace).

I had a nice Alpine and when it started acting up I just replaced it. I paid $50 for it at a boneyard so couldn't see spending a lot on fixing it when I got a decent single DIN for under $200..
