Oh here comes Mr. Wise Guy. What's next, suggesting we have the codes read when the CEL lights up?

    EDIT: Do boats have CELs?

Of course not. If the cell comes on it's over.

I had a stripped plug on my front diff, I took a Dremel and notched it so that I could hammer it counter clockwise with a chisel which knocked it loose almost right away.

I know the rear diff plug is a different kind of plug but this method could still work. The other tried and true method is to tack weld a wrench or socket onto the stripped plug and then loosen it.

Sounds like it would be easier to fix the stripped plug.. or turn the truck upside down to fill it.

Not all of it is going to come out as some is going to cling to the gears, axles, inside of the housing, etc.

This happened to me. I just hammered a size smaller socket on the fill plug and with a little persuasion, it came out. After I got it out. I filled the diff back up and put the stripped fill plug on just tight enough to get to the dealer and replaced the stripped one.

check your owners manual, if its a 4x4 should be at least 3 quarts(3.2), my 2nd GEN I got used was at least almost a quart low from the factory Id assume cause it wasn't changed b y the previous owner

That was my thought :D. Other option would be remove the third member , turn it so the drain plug is on the same level as the fill plug originally was and fill it. You will have perfect fluid level. A bit more work than fixing the fill plug, but the same result.

Damn, I was pulling for you dude. Could you maybe remove the vent plug and fill from there? Would be slow going and I am not sure if there is a baffle in there or anything. Just a thought.
