Help: T-Case to Transmission Seal leaking

    A few tweaks
    A few things,

    Cross member is under the tranny, so no need to remove it to pull the tcase.

    I think more leaks come from the shifter base than the seals. Make sure your breathers are clear.

    A few of the pictures in this thread show oil pretty high up on the side. Mine looked like this but was bone dry inside. Was leaking from up at the shifter. Picture below shows oil, was leaking mostly from the other side.

    Remember, the amount of oil leaking that you see is from 100 k plus miles. Unless it is dripping, clean it up and keep an eye on it

    If you do decide to replace seals, be VERY careful putting the case back in. It is easy to destroy the new seal.

    Can anyone verify the part number for the seals for the output on the rear of the transmission and the input shaft at front of the transfer case?

    The TTORA post linked earlier had them listed as 90311-40007

    I did a google search and didn’t find anything conclusive, it is a valid Toyota part number but most links reference it as a “driveshaft seal”

    Ok so I had this issue a while back and here is the info:

    There is a seal at the Trans output where the Xfer case slides in to and there is a seal at the Xfer case input. There is a void in between them. They do not share oil and the seal 99% of the time that is leaking is the trans output. BE CAREFUL replacing this seal as you can easily damage it during install and be back to square 1 with a whining trans that has gears burning up.

    Here is the diagram (based off my 1995 with W59 trans R100 Xfer case 3RZ):

    Transmission output (known as the trans/adapter seal): 9031140007

    That’s exactly what I’m looking for, thank you much.

    At 320k I'm due for a clutch, did my last one at 140k when I had to replace the transmission from a burned up input shaft bearing, wasn’t aware of this issue at the time but obviously a culprit of a leak that may have caused it.

    When I did the clutch then I replaced 3 seals, the input shaft cover seal on the front of the transmission as well as the transfer case input shaft cover seal and the transmission output seal.

    When I mated the transfer case and transmission I had the transmission upright with the bellhousing flat on the ground and dropped the transfer case on from above, that way limited pressure from the sides and haven’t had a leak since.

    I was made aware at the time that you definitely should not RTV the two together because you could be sealing off the ability to see a leak that would be evident from the dead space between the two.
