If they won't fix it you should call Toyota tell them the situation

First off, it is not fair to say that all dealerships fixed cars "only if they are lucky". Most all dealerships provide and require extensive training for their techs. That being said, you did take it to a body shop at the dealership, and they do not diagnose or do any mechanical work at the body shop. They are trained body techs, and not trained mechanical techs. I would think that if they had a problem starting the car, then calling you at first to verify that it was not an existing condition would be the smart thing. Perhaps there was a history of starting problems that they were not aware of? They just wanted to be sure. I do think that at the least they should have had one of the service techs come check the codes first, then call you about it.

I agree with the possibility that they may have done some welding, and caused damage to a component. Whenever I weld on a vehicle, I disconnect the battery, as well as disconnect the major computers completely.

I will however say this: Saying that it was running fine when it was brought in, so they must have screwed something up is not being 100% fair. Anyone that thinks about this logically will realize that sometimes things just fail. You drove your truck to work and it was running fine, then after work you get in and now it runs like crap. Is it your job's fault because you parked it there and worked for them? No. Something failed. It happens all the time. ALL the time. Now the proper thing would be for their service department to check the truck over to find what is actually failed first. They should do this free of charge, because while they may not be truly liable yet, in good faith they should at least foot the bill for the diagnostics. Once the failure has been determined, THEN go from there to see if it is possible that they made a mistake, or that something just happened.

I always enjoy reading your posts. :)

I agree with this 100%. I work at a dealership and see this kind of complaint all the time. Like "you just replaced my window regulator now my transmission shifts funny, you have to fix it for free". We call these complaints "ever since" checks.

Now I'm not saying they didn't screw something up cause it does happen, but I'm saying give them the benefit of a doubt first.

    Agreed!

I have enough experience to recognize dealer f.. ups even if they take sweet time covering them up. I have yet to have service and have everything come back in tip top shape. This is not only one dealer this is a full range of different cars and dealers. I can not be that "lucky" . I mean even small things like oil changes require checking afterwards. Dealers are waste of money when it comes to quality. They are better than Jiffy Lube but not better than small mom and pop shops that take pride in what they do.

Good. Let us know what they find if you don't mind.

    Thanks.

Seems like you have had some bad luck at dealerships from what I have seen on your posts over time, lol. I disagree with you on quality. It is not the dealership that is the quality, it is the technician. I have seen techs at dealerships who are absolutely meticulous in their repairs, and even make sure the entire truck is clean before it leaves their stall.

I have also seen techs at independent shops that should have their tools taken away from them forever from the way they work on vehicles.

It is up to the individual tech to do quality work. It is also up to the dealership, and independent shops to have some QC in their shops. At the dealership I worked at in Florida, we actually had a QC tech who's sole job was to drive every vehicle after a repair and make sure that everything was up to snuff on the repairs. If it wasn't right, he brought it back to the tech. I have been in this industry for near 30 years and it has historically been the techs who make the quality. Perhaps some research should be made on the type of dealership people go to. I have only worked at one dealership that was a corporate dealership (Meaning big corporation, not just one that is an INC or LLC) and I did not stay there long after seeing the way the service department was run. I have always preferred and been happy working at a privately owned dealership as they are much better to work at.

There are good techs out there but their number is so small that getting them to work on your car is almost impossible. I know few guys that would do great job but i would have to drive 100 + miles. Anything local to me so far has been failure after failure.
I think last case of my wifes Toyota takes a cake. $200 for Transmission fluid change and this guys did not even broke fill plug lose.
