I know a little about the ADD system and not sure what kind of effects this is having on my front end.

    thanks

EDIT: my fault for being so slow the truck was was 2500 bucks with trd rear locker so I wasn’t too careful with the inspection my bad. Manual hub is on the passenger side. J shift transfer case automatic shifter. 3.4 engine.
Pictures incoming in a little sorry bout that

    Welcome to TW

You sure this is the case? If so it sounds like you bought an unfinished project. Post some pics of your truck and your hubs…and your shifter and your dash panel. Which engine does it have? If it’s truly catywompus like you say, one cv axle will wear faster than the other, but it should be possible to convert one to match the other.

    Welcome to the Forum!!

How did this not attract your attention during the pre purchase inspection and road test when you engaged the 4x4 to make sure it worked correct??

First it might really be an Automatic hub from the mid eighties ! Not one of Toyota`s best ideas.

Just which side has the locking Hub?

If this really has one side ADD and one side a locking hub this is going to be interesting.

Since the locking hub and ADD CV axles are different

Pictures I am sure we are all waiting to see just what you have.

    1. Take a breather, your statement only makes some sense if I'm assuming what you're trying to say. Type out coherent sentences.

    2. Take pictures of your 'issue'

Are you trying to say you have manual hubs at both wheel ends? Or is one side a manual hub and the other side ADD?

ADD as a whole, consists of an extension on your differential with an actuator that engages and disengages your front cv axles. Seeing as how your vehicle is a 2001, it will be electronically actuated.

Manual hubs are not available for your model year, but some people do replace various parts to convert them to manual hub. Sometimes, that extension on your differential is replaced by that of a manual hub setup, or simply 'modified' in a way where it is always in an engaged position.

From there, the spindles are either replaced with that from a manual hub vehicle, or simply disassembled and have the correct parts replaced IE the wheel hub. Manual hub cv axles are then used.

I'm just here to listen to the rest of the story.

I know Tacomas are way different, but my old Nissan was plug and play. It took me 20 minutes of garage time to convert the front to manual hubs after I thrashed the notoriously weak automatics. Didn't even have to pull bearings. Just take off the wheel, unbolt locking hub, install a set of Warns that I picked up for 80 bucks at 4WP, cut hole in hubcap, put wheel back on. :cookiemonster:

I want to see this unfinished masterpiece. Makes me wonder what else is going on. Is there also only one door that has an aftermarket speaker?

I really would love to see the OP come back.

How could that not stick out in your pre purchase inspection.

I could see being over come with Tacoma Lust or maybe the Truck was bought sight unseen as is.

So does the truck actually have ADD? Is it a manual truck that some one got lazy and just threw an ADD hub on because they couldn't find a manual hub. Can you take a picture of the jack shaft on the front diff?

Just add a new post to this thread.

People that have responded won't know you edited the original post.

J shift transfer case has no bearing on your ADD or manual hub setup as J shift was available with either setup.

Remove your skid plate and inspect your differential and follow what I said earlier above.

Damn, im impressed. I did not think this was going to be real. I am leaning toward what homeboy above mentioned, someone had a spare spindle and threw it on. Curious to see what checking out the diff brings.

the pre-tacoma trucks were the same, you could swap out the add flanges with hubs for no work.

1st gen tacomas use a different wheel bearing setup and CV with for the manual/ADD setups. the outer stubs are different lol

The 4x4 Pick Ups and 4Runners it was just a matter of removing the the hub plates and installing the manual hubs which was great because it gave me the option of locking my hubs in the winter and also have the option of ADD shifting while moving.
