Another member also had that rubber part of the filler cut by a gas stealer. If true, you are lucky they didnt knife the plastic tank.

Look and see if the inside of your wheelwell cover is cut in that area - they may have made a hole in it to get to the filler tube.

Some idiot drilled my steel tank on my 1st gen. Not sure if I wish they did, or if I’m glad they didn’t make sparks doing it.

No strange problems, just gas thieves. Good thing they didn't jack your tailgate and spare while they were at it! Stupid tweakers

Lucky, gas thieves in Alberta just drill out people's tanks to steal gas. Ever since pay at the pumps because mandatory province wide.

It never ceases to amaze me in these forums how fast people jump to conclusions about “problems” with these trucks. I’m shocked the “Lemon Law” hasn’t been mentioned yet on this one. Most likely somebody stole your gas and damaged the fuel fill in the process. OR maybe there is something came loose, big deal that is why they have warranties.

Defective filler necks are pretty common with certain manufacturers. Sounds like this is your problem. If it will take gas pumping slow then that’s your problem. Just a pressure issue and the gas is probably pouring out of the overflow or fillerneck. Could be something Evap related.

I’d imagine op should be updating this soon

Filler neck leak, vent tube blockage, tweakers. Messy but not too hard to troubleshoot. However just let the dealer deal with it. If it was thieves it’s time for a fuel tank skid. Hop on the RCI group buy happening right now.

So what ended up happening was that when I had my tonneau cover installed a week ago they had to enlarge the drain holes in the bed, and they must have nicked the fill hose when they did that. The dealership dropped my gas tank expecting to find rodent damage to the hose, but they found artificial damage from a drill bit. The tonneau cover installer has agreed to cover the damages, which is good because it cost $583 to replace the hose! Be cautious when drilling these holes out guys, the gas fill hose is somewhere very near the driver side drain hole. Thanks for all the help and time in figuring this out you guys.

Here's a photo of the hose and the hole. $104 dollars for the hose alone. I was expecting rubber hose and some hose clamps haha

Wow, that is great they are going to cover it. This is why I use a step bit whenever I can as it limits the amount of extra bit that can go where you don't want it to. Glad to hear that you are back on the road. Sounds like your dealer did a great job of finding the issue quickly.

Yeah, I'm pleased all around with the help I got resolving the issue. It took the dealership a few days to get the part, but that couldn't be helped. Be careful using step bits as well on this, that is what the installer used and still nicked it. It is very very close to the drain hole

I'm not clear on why you'd have to enlarge drain holes for a tonneau install??

First, congratulations @DLRIII on finding the fix and keeping us posted.

    Second, WTF???

Did Toyota make the 3rd Gen funnel to tank hose out of that soy based crap that’s tasty to mice, rats and other vermin?

We are glad this had a good outcome. Thanks for sharing your story. Next time though when asking for troubleshooting advice tell us about recent changes like the cover install.
