Ive got a 2009 dc 4wd automatic with 100,000. When I take off it gives a jerk or pop and here lately I can feel it when I come to a stop. Cant really explain it just like a u-joint pop. When I put in drive it gives the pop same in reverse. Runs down the road good no vibration. Only when I take off or stop. Should I worry about it or get used to it.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
im not sure.. my 4runner has a lurch from time to time at a stop but no noise

right, is there a sound or just the felt/motion?

my 2006 runner does lurch 80k miles but only at times, not exactly sure what it is.

and if it is a sound how loud is it and whats the closest like sound you can compare it to?

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Settle down, he may have legitimately Googled that yo try and help. It is very common for these transmissions to that, I can't explain it, I'm not a mechanic. I only know mine has done that since I got it, not all the time, but often enough. 175k miles later, it is still going, no major tranny work thus far (knock on wood).

At one point I thought I had a tranny issue because my truck wouldn't move sometimes and it would jerk too at stops and stuff. Turns out the tire shop messed up my rear brakes when popping off the brake drum.

Hey im not upset but, when you pay the money for these Toyotas as we all have it kind of bothers you when there is a problem that could be major. I thought it was the brakes because it felt like it breaks loose had em checked fine. But, I feel better when I read posts that people say they have the same prob and its normal. The sound when put in gear is not a pinging it just engages rough I guess. Thanks for the info.

    ^^ sounds like an auto..

its pretty much a false alarm with the newer taco's they seem to have very reliable auto's

if it was a 96 and was lurching i would say keep an eye on the boneyards.

The 4runner seems to only do it after being loaded (more than just cruising) like the tranny is confused. OR when i have coasted for a long way and stop, same thing then.. Just like it had a brain fart

You should check your u-joints first, you could at least eliminate them as a possible cause of the problem. Your truck should be cold, because a u-joint that's borderline might feel fine if the truck has been driven all day and metal has expanded. You should also have the truck in neutral with the e-brake on, so there's no load on the drivetrain. Wouldn't hurt to block a few wheels, either. Nobody died in their own driveway from being TOO safe.

Next, you need to crawl under your truck, grab the driveline with your hand near each u-joint and try to wiggle it side to side, then up and down. If there's no slop and everything feels firm, move on to the next one. Try not to rotate the driveline while you wiggle it. If you rotate it, you will feel some play but that is normal.

You could also take a screwdriver or small pry bar, stick it into the middle of each u-joint and GENTLY pry on it to see if it is loose. The tip should be small enough it easily fits into the u-joint, and be careful not to rip a rubber seal or pry against a grease fitting and damage it.

While your truck is in neutral with the e-brake on, you should try to rock it back and forth a little bit to see if it makes the popping noise. The e-brake only applies the rear brakes, so if you hear a popping noise it's probably an issue with your drum brakes, like jeremy 283 discovered. Hope that info helps...

Edit: Where in Oklahoma are you, if your close to north Tx i could help you if in fact its u joints. They a SOB with out the right tools.

Im not sure if a reg cab will have the serviceable u joints or not. I know the 01-04 pre runners didn't like the off roads.
