Purchased my Taco new in 2016, have always taken it to the Dealership for service. I asked my Service Advisor numerous times when the transmission fluid needed to be changed and every time was told, “at 100,000 miles”. Now it’s about to turn 100,000 and I have an appointment to have the transmission serviced and I’m reading that it should have been done every 30-60,000 miles, that doing so “late” can actually CAUSE transmission problems.

I can’t change the fact that I was given bad advice, but what would you guys recommend I do? Flush and change filters or simply drain and replace? It’s my own fault for not reading the damn service manual and trusting the Dealership.
In my defense I am a 70 year old woman who knows nothing about the mechanics of her vehicle.

I wouldn’t worry. Get a full fluid replacement and add a tube of Lubeguard while you’re at it.

    Drain and fill.

The 60,000 interval is for "severe duty." I tow a camper with mine for example, so I'm about to change mine at 60.

The manual is frustratingly nebulous for normal duty, only saying "as needed." I'd recommend doing a normal service at 100.

I really wouldn't stress about it too much, but there is a manual that should be in your glove box that lists out the schedule for maintenance actions. Asking anyone these days is a crapshoot, no one really seems to follow the manual, not even the dealerships anymore.

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.
Your truck is fine. Absolutely fine. Now get back to those trails and that photography!

You should only listen to people you trust, which means none of us.
Also, please remember there are guys here who change their oil every two thousand miles and transmission fluid every 20 thousand miles. That is not right either. You will be fine.

I’m very proactive. Oil changes every 5,000. I admit I haven’t read a service manual since my 1st Gen Tacoma in 2001. Had a 2nd Gen, too. Things could have changed, I guess.

    Also - I trust no-one.
