It stops blinking almost every time if I just sit there for 10 seconds. I keep the wheels straight to help it engage

I just posted a video of me doing it on pavement. But I get the same results when in the dirt and mud

I don't like driving 4x4 on pavement. But I did the other night to see how the feel of it was. Just trying to get all the feels of my truck

You are not supposed to drive in 4x4 on pavement unless you are not making any turns and are just driving straight. You can if you want but will bind your driveline up as soon as you make any turns. That is not good for the truck.
4 wheel drive should be engaged in low traction surfaces only. Not pavement.

Why though? My Audi is 4x4 and it drives awesome on pavement and I've had a f250 lariat 4x4 and it drives great too. So why not my Tacoma?

Dude you can't be turning on pavement in 4wd. Don't do it again. I reversed out of my spot the other day and didn't realize it was in 4wd and when I went to turn the truck just binded and wouldn't move lol

Yikes.....okay so it was an honest mistake but sounds like that's the source of your problem. Never Never Never engage 4wd on pavement unless you intend to hold the wheel as straight as an arrow.

Yessums. AWD, the wheels left to right, can spin at different speeds.

4wd, left to right the wheels turn at the same speed.

When you turn, your outside wheels have to spin faster than your inside wheels. AWD can manage this, 4WD cannot, thats why you should only engage 4wd in loose ground.

This should be taken into account by 2wd folk also, dont turn on auto lsd unless you really need it.

Hopefully you didn't make any turns in 4WD on the dry pavement...ouch, thats an expensive mistake to make.

Only time is if you are losing traction or the tires are in a condition where they can slip a bit. If it is mild snow or mildly wet outside then I wouldn't do it. If it is icy or heavy snow then 4hi and go slow.

To be honest, I have forgotten and drove on pavement in 4wd before. My truck's a manual and when I turned into a driveway my driveline binded bad enough to stop the truck and engine. Nothing broke or got damaged, but I would not want to do that on purpose.

Yeah, I think we've all experienced it at one point or another, on accident or otherwise. Once I was on a trail, deep in the hills using 4lo and cruising along in 2nd gear. I was taking a turn and this random concrete slab on the trail out in the middle of nowhere popped up (probably covering something being used by the forest service) and my tires grabbed it in 4lo and did not like it one bit. Fortunately, nothing bad happened but when you feel that feeling once, you know you don't want it to happen again.
