Any help? Trying to get it started to leave for work! Can drop it off at a mechanic next door to the office if I need to, or pick up parts at AutoZone...

First check the simple things. Battery (voltage across terminals should be about 12.x volts), connections for corrosion, don't know of any fuses that would take out the starter that wouldn't also take out the lights, but check the fuses anyway. Put a charger on the battery. Call in sick. Get a cup of coffee. Try starting again after the battery charger has been on for a hour or so. Then your into the second level.

Could I not just jump start it if it is the battery. Everything electrical is working.

That loud sound is the air injection pump. Its supposed to do that. If that noise is present, then it sound like the battery might be good. The other suggestion would be to swat the starter with a hammer to see if it will engage.

    Let us know.

No, under the truck. Sometimes the contacts in the starter gett corrosion, smacking the starter jars the contacts enough to get it to turn, thus starting your truck. You will still need to rebuild the starter.

The battery may be shot. If you jump it, then you will probably need another jump after you shut it off. Its common for the batteries to die all of a sudden. Unless you left something on that drained the battery, there's no reason it should have low voltage other than a bad cell.

You could do that. Just don't shut it off on between.

I just had to buy a new battery this week, 1 day between first initial slow start, and death. Auto Zone will test, and install a new one for "free"

Maybe the starter gear isn't engaging the flywheel. Is the sound coming from the starter or somewhere else when you are trying to start it?

His year truck doesn't have an air injection pump. Those didn't start until 2012.
