If lights don't dim when cranking engine over

    Possible causes ...

    Bad starter

    Bad batt cables

    Malfunctioning car alarm

Learn how to solder and heat shrink.

Its a skill that will serve you your whole life. It good to see that you want to learn how to take care of your truck.

    Its not too expensive either.

A bigger and more important question is what caused the burning wires?

You need to Know what caused it and Fix that first.

This for sure. It will happen again. Any over sized fuses being used?

Which wires are burnt? At the starter?

What caused it? URD headers touched them and burnt them according to my uncle. He says I might want to buy a new harness and put it on soon, he has new wire taped on, but there's not enough room to solder yet... How much $$$ do u think a new harness is, I am planning to reroute it...

The following may help you locate part(s) needed. Not suggesting you buy from them. Both of these sites have good parts diagrams:

You use a VIN at this site -

    http://www.partsouq.com

At this site - scroll down to "Parts We Sell" - and enter year/model

Resetting will always clear a CEL, even if the issue isn't solved. You'll have to drive it about 100 miles to be sure.

Well anytime I've ever not unplugged the battery and worked on something like that it comes on immediately upon cranking... But when I reset the battery it always goes away and stays away.... Guess I'll know by the weekend...

So what ended up being the drill noise you were hearing? You mentioned the burnt wires, but didn't say what exactly was going on.

My guess would be the current trying to go to the starter? My uncle said I was lucky it was only the one wire burnt up...

That is actually a fairly well known potential problem, when installing the headers. The wires have to be pushed out of the way, so as not to touch. Yours are now like that. Some protective heat shielding wire wrap or loom will also aid in protection from the heat.

Ultimate key point here, is to be observant when making changes.
