Help truck will not crank

    That wouldn't make the noise. Especially a motor noise. The only noise you would here from current would be if you had an arc like when welding.

    I'm still wondering if there is a gear issue also. If the wire just looked burnt, or insulator melted, its still getting power to the starter.

    Those flywheel gears are very strong.

    Probably was getting some current to spin the armature, but not enough to push the armature out.

    I think you meant the starter gear didn't slide up. The armature is a part of the coil inside the electric motor.

    Since we're on the topic of starters not functioning properly. I had a problem once.

    After a week long vacation, I came home. Tried to start my truck. Click, and the lights dimmed. Ended up pulling the starter, and disassembling it enough to inspect the brushes.

    What do you know, the cavity around the brushes, commutator, and shunt wires, there was moist silt packed in. Causing a short. It also partially corroded away one of the wires. Cleaned it out and it worked properly.....for a while.

    All of those muddy water crossings were to blame. The water would drain out, but the silt would not. Lesson learned.

    Yeah, my uncle had a buddy with a Tacoma at work tell him if I had headers check the wires, but he let me sweat it to try and figure it out before he showed me the wire.
